As I'd decided not to go camping after all, I redirected the surplus get- up-n-go towards the garage. I've finally got round to removing the Quota's gearbox. Unfortunately, a mad rush to the local tool emporium was a near waste of time: bloody place was closed. Job went reasonably smoothly, apart from the point, with the bike, now sans rear wheel and swingarm, balanced on two axle stands and the front wheel. I started hinging the engine/gearbox/lower frame rails down, but found that I'd forgotten to undo two small bolts that stabilize the throttle body against the gearbox (actually, I hadn't noticed their existence at all), so the entire air intake system was being dragged down with the engine. I stared to jack the engine back up to take the weight off the bolts, but then something fouled and the bike started to lift off the axle stands, almost toppling over. Oops. However, disaster was averted and the gearbox is now off. I suppose I'll have to molish a suitable tool to remove that layshaft nut. I can use a spare UJ to hold the shaft, or I can put it into gear and use something to hold the input shaft: I'll see what Guzziology has to say on the matter.
