My little 1981 R65 will be getting detached from the chair soon and sold
as a solo. It is ever so clean and a really sweet bike. Classic
    insurance.

    Twin front Brembos
    HD fork springs
    Steering damper
    Full Keihin stainless exhaust system
    New control cables
    New regulator
    New diode board
    New battery
    Plain black paint
    BT45 tyres

Has only done about 33k miles and these will run up 100k without issues.
The gearbox and drive train and so lightly stressed compared to the
    100's.

It isn't a concours sort of bike, although it would be if you invested
    in an OE paint job

It will have to wipe its nose at £1200

Have you considered moving to a more pikey Usenet provider.

Not here, either - though I do admit to having a duplicate filter.

I'm after a shite old airhead, but that's just too small, unfortunately.

The R65 is as big as any other unfaired boxer, and the older 650 is a sweet,
revvy engine. Power-wise, it's strong enough to haul a chair to Bavaria and
back. Has Thumper suddenly put on a lot of weight?

Ahhh, yes, unfaired. That would also be an issue.

Not having a lot of luck finding a nice R100RT at the moment.

    I'll say it is - my first comlot was a (DR) 1941 G3 Matchless - that's
350 cc, rigid rear, girders - and that pulled a Swallow S/A chair from
Essex, over the Borrrrder, round the Highlands of Scotland, and back
    again.

    Several of times.

OK, it plodded somewhat, but with a following wind it did sixty.

The next one (depending on which is finished first) will be a Honda RS
250 and a lightish fibreglass thing, or an R800 with a Berger sports
    chair.

    Oh, you bitch ;-)

    Only just noticed that.

No - she's a good stone and a half lighter than she was last time you
    saw her.

You must be keeping her well exercised.

The R65 is just as big as any other unfaired boxer apart from height,
width, length, wheelbase and seat height. They look the same, but they
    aren't.

I *think* it was the same chassis and running gear on the mono R65 as
the contemperaneous R80, but the twin shock R45/R65/R65LS bikes were
    eversoslightly smaller

Details. It was the dismissing of a 650 twin that had just hauled a chair
to Bavaria and back at autobahn speeds as "just too small" that set me off.
TBF I have a soft spot for the older R65 - I'd have this one myself, but for
    budgetary and other constraints.

I do miss mine. Maybe I ought to rescue it from Sweller's lockup and
    get it sorted.

Yes as a sedate Tourer or daily commuter this R65 would excell. Without a
chair it will sit at 80 all day every day.

I *have* looked for it, really.

I think there's one more "box of crap" that I need to go through, at
    the weekend.
