You do surprise me. You pseudo-intellectual film buffs are all alike.

 

I could understand you watching a chick flick if you were trying to get off
with someone but _willingly_?

 

I was home-alone and it was the least bad of what was on.

 

You had no books?

 

I was busy at the time. The TV was just on.

 

I have nothing to say. I just wanted this to echo for posterity.

 

Stop spouting your opinion as gospel?

It can't be said to be a failure for several reasons:

1. It was a box-office success
2. I enjoyed watching it
3. Tom Hanks got an oscar for it

Also, and this should appeal to you, you don't neccessarily need a
complex, or even strong, plotline to have a good book/film. It's the
way it's told that's important.

Hanks won an oscar for playing a 'tard during a period when the Academy
almost exclusively gave out best actor in a leading role oscars for
playing people with some kind of disability or affliction, as the
list above clearly indicates.
