so, who's betamaxed themselves and bought an HDDVD player?

I was right about Sky vs The Squariel and I was right about this... so
    no.

I reckon it could have gone the other way if Microsoft had fitted an
HD DVD drive internally to the Xbox 360.

Because, although Sony got it right with the Blueray in the PS3,
they've been wrong[1] before (Betamax obviously, but also UMD in the
    PSP)

[1] for "beaten by the market" values of "wrong".

well, yes, in general I realise this.

but there must be *some* muppets who couldn't wait, and believed the
    Toshiba/Microsoft hype...

Microsoft were far more interested in perpetuating the format war while
ramping up their video download service via XBox Live.

  12. Nope, but now is an excellent time to buy one if you're after an
upscaling DVD player for playing existing non-HD discs. Amazon are
punting them out for 78 quid.

The UMD is okay. It has no substitutes I know of. Okay, there aren't
that many movies for that format, but there aren'tthat many people ready
to watch movies on the PSP display either.

isn't that what I just said?

I didn't criticise the technology behind UMD (or Betamax for that
    matter).

Pig-wanking would be CBeebies material compared with the three way
Brazilian vomit-scat stuff I downloaded last week.

I've never seen anyone shit in someone else's arse before. You live and
    learn, eh?

When they release a blu-ray compatible version of Nero, I'll be looking
    for niche markets.
