Ok, so the styling's a bit too German for my liking, but I love the
concept... And can imagine that filling up on a high-flow nozzle would
    take
    all of a half-dozen seconds.

    I like the concept but
    Why a twin crankshaft?
    Why the 14 litre tank?
Why is it so fuggen ugly?

The Egli diesel bike we met at the top of an Italian pass would have
been nice thing if the owner hadn't chosen to fit it with ape hangers.
It sounded awesome as he took off down the road. It seemed to pull
    from idle.

This is what it looks like with proper 'bars.

If the Germans can fit a exhaust particle filter to a motorbike, why can't
we manage to get them fitted to buses and garbage trucks?

They are fitted to some buses but as far as I know only those that don't
meet Euro 5 without the particle filters.

Some meet Euro 5 using AdBlue or EGR rather than after engine filters.

Does it really matter how they meet the regulations as long as they meet
    them?

The Action diesel buses in Canberra certainly aren't fitted with them, and
from the way they spew smoke they surely aren't Euro 5 either.

(All of the new Action buses run on CNG, the remaining diesel ones were
just coming into service in 1995).

  9. I wonder when they are going to send their drivers to driver training school
    ??

Especially the ones along Drakeford Drive ?

That's a government fleet, they are infamous for buying a huge number of
buses all at once and then doing nothing for ages.

I was more talking about the situation in Victoria but I will add that
all new buses since about 2000 have been at least Euro II.
CNG only works if you can get a permit to allow the extra weight of the
CNG system (to maintain the same power and passenger carrying capacity).

Excuse me for being cynical but I find it 'convenient' that almost
without exception the only fleets able to get such permits are
    government fleets.

There are private CNG buses but they tend to be 200 horse power MAN's
which are down on power by 33% compared to standard buses (save weight
by using a smaller motor) and they struggle to maintain times on routes
    so haven't been very popular.

The belching diesel issue that Action buses have is because they are old
and should have been replaced years ago not inherently because they are
    diesel buses.

  13. Apparently it's to "remove engine vibrations" -
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diesel_motorcycle
Because it looks ugly enough as it is, without fitting a bigger one? I do
wonder though; my Kwak's got a 15-litre tank that looks roughly half the
    size of that 14-litre monstrosity.
Designed for yuppies? I do like the "heads-up" display in the mirror.

No. That's him in the photo, smoking a cigarette. He seemed sad enough.

I actually enquired about buying one of those diesel enfields (poxy
yellow colour not withstanding) but the local Enfield dealer at the time
couldn't seem to source one. He kept trying to fob me off with a petrol
    Enfield.

If only 3 came into the country then I'm not surprised I couldn't get one!
