    I'm sort of torn on the remake. On one side it will have decent CGI.
    On the other, it's a cheesy classic and should thus be left alone.

    Plus I have fond memories of the first time I went to see it.

    Yeah. It *might* be good, but tending to the norm would indicate that
    it's going to be no better than 'OK'.
    Especially if they think that what made the original 'good' was the
    'effects'

    Usually the case IME.
    I think the fact that the effects were so bad actually helped in some
    ways; it made the virtual world a much more alien place.
