without seeing them it's too easy to slate them, but the phrase
"Supplied with reel and kite line" (along with price!) suggests these
are much more disposable toys than objects likely to give you an insight
    into 'proper'[1] kiting.

[1] and I use the term loosely, so don't start.

There was a thread about kites recently. For those who, like me,
thought "I'd like to have a go but I don't want to spend much money
because it might not be as much fun as I remember", Lidl has a
selection of kites at 1.99 this week - including aerobatics.

If you want a go on a real kite, I'll dig out the Flexifoil when you're
    down.

Many, many moons ago when I were young we stopped in Sri Lanka (it was
Ceylon in those days don'tcher know).

Outside the hotel there was a big green and lots of kids were flying
kites - mostly sort of crows with tassels or serpents made out of
tissue & bamboo or similar. These were made & sold by little old men
who were plying their trade there.

I bought a serpent one and had it for years. I reckon I could still
    make one.

have you ever actually flown one of the current breed of power kites
or 4 line stunt kites ?
theres far more to it that you might think
don't knock it till you've tried it

In mind, yes - I do work with 9 year olds though, which is one of the
reasons I bought 2 of the things. Kite day is tomorrow at my
playscheme. And thanks for all the the offers of demonstrations of
making, but I already can, ta, and will tomorrow, out of sticks,
tissue paper, sellotape and wool. The Lidl ones are extras.

I went past a municipal playing fields area last weekend... Saw 2
loonies on 3-wheeled bugies, tacking at great speed, pulling
themselves along with f-off kites!* - More like a display 'chute
than a trad kite... Impressive to watch...

    And no, I'm 12 an' a bit...

I like watching the kite surfers when we get a full on-shore gale. Which
reminds me, I must get my lesson booked.
I'm sure I don't know what you mean.
I did expect to see you after you went beer shopping on the first
Saturday, but I guess the Bodmin traffic got the better of you. Then it
started drizzling and I didn't want to get the bike wet.

  20. Saw some Dutch guys while I was in France this summer. They had power
kites and mini surf boards. They really did shift across the water.
