    I found this amusing:

    A 747 "in a crosswind".

Ah, I lived near to Sheung Shui (on the road that went to Yuen Long),
just outside a village called Kwu Tung.

  3. I've not flown in to the new one. Kai Tak, as you rightly say, was great
fun. Especially looking *down* at buildings from a BA 747. And I mean
directly down. We saw a Lufty 747 do a go around there, too.

  4. Did something like that last week. We went up to a hill called La Pleta in
the Parque de Garraf. Superb views, including stuff on approach to BCN. The
top of Sugarloaf in Rio gives you a great view on the stuff going in to
    Santos Dumont. Very kewl.

  5. I have memories of looking *up* at buildings on the landing
approach. i.e. we were lower than the skyscrapers we were threading
through. ...and then a 14-hour layover before my flight to BNE. Cathay
tried to make amends by upgrading me to Business from ZRH and giving me
vouchers for two meals at the airport.

I recall Concorde doing a flypast in the seventies: we knew it'd be
flying round the harbour on a particular day but it was still a
surprise to hear what at first sounded like military jet engines.

What made it particularly unusual was that we lived on the island side
of the harbour at that time, so aircraft noises were somewhat rare.[/QUOTE]

She was a regular visitor to Kai Tak, see

  9. Check out the San Diego trailer on there. Not quite as impressive as Kai
Tak, but very neat when BA 747s used to land there. We did it in a 777,
    which was fun.

I like the PB Air trailer (Fokker F28). Mmm, beer.

There are a few films of approaches (some REALLY hairy ones) to Kai Tak, one
on particular shows one landing done in a massive crosswind, causing the
pilot to do some serious stick waggling. He gets it down, but I think he
needed surgery to remove the seat from his crack.

If Michael Moore [1] is anything to go by, some of them are paid close
    to nothing.

I know it does depend very much on the airline. Air France pays
    extremeley well, by all accounts.

[1] I'm pretty sure it was him, but could have been another journo.
