For SV650 Riders - Insurance info

Discussion in 'Motorbike Technical Discussion' started by George J. McFadden, Aug 31, 2004.

  1. For all those SV Riders out there... I have had Progressive Ins since
2000 when I purchased my SV650. My rates were always sub $300 until
this year - I got my renewal notice and my premium went from around $270
to $675! I called and asked what the deal was, and they told me that
they had reclassified my bike and that was the new premium!

Thank God for competition! I called my Erie agent and told them I
wanted MC insurance - they suggested Progressive! hehehe! I said "no
way! What else you got?" They came back with a company called
    FOREMOST.

To make a long story short, my rate is not around $235 per year, the
coverage limits are higher than with Progressive, it includes towing,
and I don't have to store my bike from Dec-Feb!

Just wanted to pass this along.

Here in MA they don't sell either one. The state controls pricing here,
which means that although we all get screwed, we all get screwed equally.

PH ($312/yr for liability and 50/100 medical on his XS750)

    FWIW, I pay ~$235/6mo for the SV650S & ~$225/6mo for the GSX-R750. I have
$50 deductable comp & $250 deduct for collision through State Farm. My
driving record is, er, less than perfect.

I had hte same problem with progressive. I went to Dairyland and got the
same full coverage year round for under $100.
This year my rate even went down for a "safe driver" discount!

I pay $75 dollars a year for minimum liablitiy coverage on my
SV.. though 'pacific casualty' or something. No tickets in 3
yrs, age 63. Tickets or a younger rider or a rider in
high accident rate area will pay more, and it sounds like you
got a lot more than minimum liablitiy coverage... did the $275
    include comprehensive?

You got personal medical (your own injuries) with that
package? 50,000/ 100,00 dollars? Im interested. With
Pacific I dont think you can get much personal injury for the
    rider...

I dont think it can be the carriers themselves in most
cases doing this crazy stuff because they have published rates
than any agent can access...so those rates are fixed... I
think its nutty or corrupt agents or agencies trying for home
    runs.
