For my Texan friends - The Columbia Icefields

It won't be long before Mother Nature shuts down all riding in the
Rockies, and with a bit of good weather in the forecast, a riding
friend and I thought we'd blow off a couple of days of work and go for
    a ride.

With little more than a few days of clean clothes in the bag and a
direction in mind we headed West.

Our first day took us to Hwy 93 between Lake Louise and Jasper,
stopping along the route at the Columbia Ice Fields.

From the highway you can see a few glaciers high up in the mountains,
but at one point you can get up close and personal with one of them.
    http://actualriders.ca/columbiaicefields.htm

Those pictures were taken at The Columbia Icefield where, if you fail
to read a sign or two, you can see, feel, touch and walk on a few
    centuries of glacial ice.

I hope you enjoy the pictures.

    Totally awesome, Don.
And no shortage of ice either. That would make a few Margaritas. ;)
    Thanks for sharing.

If you are referring to where he said, "It won't be long before Mother
Nature shuts down all riding in the Rockies", I believe it's because
he is way up north, where their summers are short and their winters
    are long.
You should have checked out the pics. Well worth the effort.

Hold up Sunny. Maybe better to wait until BJay comes visiting; here anyday
now. Then you can sit down with him and look at the pictures, and explain
the captions to him. I just know, alone, he'll have trouble with ''fair
hike'', and ''halfway between'', etc. Those tricky terms will distract from
his viewing pleasure. I know he'll thank u.
Jerry usually helps him, but Jerry is lost at the time. Two lost doesn't
    make a right.

I want to go see Calgary's area

If you ever make the ride, be sure to look me up. I almost always have
a cold Kokanee (Canadian Beer) in the fridge and red meat for the BBQ.

What time of the year can one riding around up that way without slipping
down? Maybe a group of us could try it early next year.

We can bring pictures of Mesquite tree fields, and winding caliche roads.

    ======MrJayT explains his odd question:
=Sunny, of course, that's what old Calgary meant. I read his post
fairly quickly. I cannot look at photos on my webby apparatus. I guess
I was thinking about ''global warming'' hail, I dont know what I was
thinking.......I was back and forth, up and down watching the Ryder
Cupp....trying to do two things, and I aint that swift anymore. Louie
had a good idea, maybe one of these dayz. Yes, I miss Jerry, I wouldve
ask him to explain, but he is necessarilly preccupied...I would
    think....MrJayT-.

I recall being in Toronto, probably very late
80's / early 90's, where Molson seemed the
popular beer. It seemed like it was actually
    made in Toronto(?).

I recall a Gran Prix race course set up down
south of the Novotel(I can't ever remember
    that lake bordering Buffalo/Toronto(?)).
(Lake Ontario, maybe ?, not too far from
    that CN Tower).

The Molson signs were all over the course,
maybe they were the sponsors ?

But, I just determined the distance from Cal-
gary to Toronto, is 2,126 miles. It's kinda'
stupid to assume that just because someone
lives in Canada, they're intimately familiar
with every province in the country. Sorry.

Early and late season the weather in the mountains can be a
crapshooter. To be fairly sure of snow free high mountain passes I'd
suggest anytime between June 1st to Sept 15th.

Molson and Labatts are the two largest brewers in Canada and they make
some pretty good brew. There are tons of smaller brewers who also make
terrific beer. Hell we even get some of the US swill up here.

I'm fairly sure Jerry knows where he's at. He's probably too busy to
stop and let _y'all_ know where he's at, ya reckon?
Me too. It's pretty high up on my bucket list.

I suggest maybe you should ask your Honey to pull it up on her
computer? We don't get to see glaciers down here in Texas. Well,
maybe once, way up in the Panhandle but that was slightly before my
    time... and yours. ;)
