Why ??

 

I just don't understand the keeping of rodents in cages. I mean, I
suppose it teaches kids to be responsible for something without
killing it, and probably, ultimately, something about mortality. Why
not just have a goldfish or a dog ?

Many years ago I came close to buying a couple of chipmunks until I
found out how big the cage needed to be.

Those things go absolutely mental nearly all day long and you need an
aviary sized cage for them to run around in or they can't get the
exercise they need but they're not really what you'd classify as a pet
because if they can't run away at 100mph they bite you.
