Hi, I am new to Perth (from Melbourne) and would like to know if it's okay
to park motorbikes on the footpath like in Victoria? Thanks.

  2. You are quite welcome to park bikes on the footpath, but you;ll get a ticket
for it. :( You can't even park in car bays in the CBD. (But cars seem to
get away with parking in bike bays.)

Hey Rod you've still got your computer time zone set to Melbourne time.

Man, that blows. I was driving in the skyshow traffic and saw bikes just
sat in amongst it - not lane-splitting. Don't tell me you can't do that
    here either!

Not allowed in Perth. Don't park in any car bays either. You've gotta find a
    bike bay.

I saw some of those in Terrace Road today, and saw some other bikes parked
on the footpath about a hundred meters further up the road too! Oh well,
the carparking fee for a bike is 50% of a car fee. Would rather pay nothing
    to park the bike though.

    No bikes in car spaces?
Not sure where I saw this but some time ago when the Perth city council were
modifying the parking system there was a quote about a motorcycling solicitor in
Tassie. Apparently they'd tried the same thing so he took his family into town,
paid the toll for a 2hr parking spot ( at which point he claimed he had hired
the location for 2hrs) then spread out the picnic blanket and all sat down for
lunch. Not hired for the specified usage? He defied them to book him.

I'd be delighted if someone can verify this story, and fill us in on the
outcome. Looks like it failed for WA.

    Hi Rod,

since i live in perth ill answer this. All depends on the local council.
One used to be able to park on the footpath in the cbd, but the council
has cracked down on it. so stick to bike bays. there are quite a few
    around and all free.

Subiaco are complete wankers. bugger all bike bays and dont even think
of parking on the footpath. found that out when it cost me $80, but u
can park in car bays there (as long as u pay and display your ticket on
the bike dashboard (thats that the council told me)). i just put the
    ticket under my seat strap.

out in the suburbs ive always parked on footpaths (just try to keep out
of the way) and not had problems.

as far as lane splitting goes in WA, yes u can do it. just remember to
indicate as u change lanes to keep it nice and legal :) as for the sky
show, perhaps they were just being extra cautious.

what bike u on by the way?
