This evening over dinner, I committed that, if I do a lap under 20
minutes in the Senior race tomorrow, I'll have the time tattoo'd
    somewhere on my body.

I wonder where it should go?

  2. I think it's a great idea. I think you should have it somewhere that's
equally easy to hide/show - it'd be a great talking piece.

Do you wear a watch? if so - wrist, inside or out perhaps.

If you get under 10 minutes you could have it tattooed on your cock.

  4. Oh and bad form, but, you've got at least one cracking artist in your
region - Check out Sarah Street who's working at Mantra Tattoo in
    Cheltenham.

Prolly somewhere it can be "inadvertently" revealed. Good conversation
    starter...

One doesn't often see a gentleman of your age with a fresh tattoo.
They're mostly green smudgy ones by then.

Having numbers tattoo'd on your arm is *so* World War 2 Jew, btw.

You might not, but there are plenty of, shall we say - More Mature
People, getting inked every day. Perhaps you're not looking in the
right places. Try some of the better studios (it's my experience that
the oldies tend to do their research better), hell even a browse on UPB
or RAB newsgroups will reveal an average age older than you think, not
sure about the german bunch though.

You could have it done on your calf
But I'd go with the top of your arm, just below the shoulder.
Easily covered with a short sleeved or t-shirt if work or such don't
    like tatoos.
Easy to "show off" whilst wearing same and you can see it yourself
    without using a mirror.

Hope the time isn't one of those numbers that looks
like a rude word when read upside down.
At least it will stop that "The older you get, the faster you were" effect.

Oh, good point. If he has "19 59" tattooed on, most people will assume
    that it's a badly-spaced "Best Before" date.

Do you know of anyone good in the south Birmingham area? I need my
current arm band tidying up because the original guy did lousy job,
    and I'm pondering something new.

And one thing that's always bugged me... is it the done thing just to
turn up and discuss what you want[1], or ring up first and arrange a
    time?

[1] This is what I did first time, and possibly didn't get exactly
    what I wanted.

Hi Ben, I've x-posted to UPB because I'd be lying if I said I was
really up to date and the Midlands never was my area of any knowledge.
The only names that spring to mind are Jo Harrison and Steve Hartnoll -
but I wouldn't know if a) they're still about b) in the brum area c)
any good at what you might want.

I do know it's worth travelling to get it done properly. I think you've
    sussed that already.
Either or both. First I'd try and get some idea of what you want, then
do a bit of research for artists that specialise. For example most
tattooists will churn out so called "tribal" blackwork - but there are
a few who produce outstanding blackwork. I know what I'd do if I had my
    time over again.

Then I'd turn up on spec, see their portfolios, talk with them. If
they're obviously busy, ask when to come back and discuss in detail
etc. If you can't face turning up on spec, give them a call first, they
won't mind. If they're unwilling or prickly - move on.

I've heard of Steve Hartnoll, he works here http://www.tattooz.com/
and did one of the guys at work and my brother, so I was going to go
    and see him.
    Yeah certainly.
Yeah, my band is "tribal" but the lines aren't very clean (although it
is getting on for 10 years old now) and there are a couple of little
bits missing from it that I never noticed at first.
    Very handy, cheers.

  18. A quick look suggests he's a competant tattooist, whether he's good at
what you want, you'll need to determine for yourself.

I notice that none of the artists at the studio have displayed any
"tribal" - doesn't mean they're no good mind.

Compared to someone like Curly in Oxford
http://www.tattoo.co.uk/gallery.htm who shows mostly blackwork in his
    portfolio.

Likewise Xed le Hed http://www.xedtattoo.com/ has a great reputation
    for similar.

I know the former wife of this guy: http://www.mickysharpz.com
I think they split up when she ran out of blank skin.
I'll ask her who's good or bad in Brum.

Steve Hartnoll who DNC mentioned took over Micky Sharpz shop a few
years back. As I understand it Micky Sharp doesn't tattoo any more.
