My point being that 'most of them had fairings and heated grips'..

are you saying that most didn't? a majority didn't?

Yeah, well, from the pictures, your Triumph is a related model to
Spiro's Yellow and black full faired triple...perhaps Daytona?

Anyhow, I had a sit on Spiro's bike, and needed help to get the lump off
    the side stand. :-(
The 850 is, by the numbers, far too heavy for me, but, because of the
lower CG, it becomes possible for me to live with it.

I imagine an R1150R would, indeed, be a very nice bike, but, for a
similar age and kilometres, would be rather more expensive than the
R850. While Spiro, who had an 1150 Rockster(?), said it was indeed,
down on power, I found the power quite adequate for what I am likely to
    want to do with it.

I ain't going to load the thing up with camping gear, supplies and wife,
and head off for a round Oz trip.

Angie's idea of a long motorcycle ride, and her longest to date, is from
Raymond Terrace back to Beecroft. (The last Stone Ride)

If I want to go for a longish ride, I'd be on my own, and would most
    likely take the Street Triple.

OTOH, I don't like taking the Trumpy or the Z50 and parking it in a
    shopping centre parking lot.

Actually, it turned out I was the only ng user on Bekkers and we were
paying $200 a month for the peering, so we dropped it last week. So
here I am on google, trying to find all the previous posts about other
news services that I previously ignored.

    Help!

Rubbish. By the looks of that photo, on that road you'd have spent all
your time pushing yourself back upright with your hands. Heated grips
would have been a waste :)

+1 reliable and very cheap... 10 euros or something like that a year.

Doesn't disappear like the free ones have a tendency to do either...

Yep; sounds like a Super 111.
I can't find a photo but they were a hotrod yellow Daytona with a heap of
black carbon fibre and sand-cast heads.
Ran about 20% more power than the normal carb triple.
They also had long 6-piston front calipers.
The old carb triples are top-heavy, slow dinosaurs compared to that scalpel
    you've got!
Though it would be PERFECT for such a trip!!
****; loan it to me and I will!

Maybe you're right Johno. What's the make of your other big bike Cam?

Yup, but it does look and sound very nice, and the yellow/black is
    really tasty.
If you want to start mid-June, and be back by early August, something
    could be arranged.

Hang on tho, don't you have some weird business of having to crash a
bike before you really bond with it? ;-)

I don't have a big bike. The 850 is the biggest.

That black pommie thing? It's just a little 675....a girlie bike.
