In South Africa (where I lived for a while) indicators take on a whole
new set of meanings. I should point out that the Sarf Efikans drive on
the same side of the road (for the most part <g>) as we do in England.

They can be used as a thank you for allowing someone to pass (flick
right indicator for one flash, followed by left indicator for one
    flash).

They can also be used by larger and / or slower vehicles obstructing
your way ahead to let you know that it is safe for you to pass them
(larger vehicle pulls to the far left of the carriageway and then puts
    on their right hand indicator).

Kind of spooky when you first see it... though not half as destracting
as seeing the vehicle in front of you on the motorway slow down to
perform a U-turn in the central reservation :)

Does "What's behind you doesn't matter" not apply in, then?
    Bloody fair-weather poofs.

Having been tail-ended on the Wing, I don't think any amount of lights
matter, if the fucker isn't looking.

You appear to have a nasty stutter.

And, to answer the question, when stationery, what's behind really
    *does* matter :)

That occurred to me too, once I realised that the frogwit wasn't going
to attempt a reply or admit his error.
Gosh look - here we go again on another tack.
Of course you were, frogwit. No followup though - to your
    so-successful troll.
You're just _so_ fucking funny Des - I think I've broken a rib
    laughing. At you.

You didn't, did you? Appeared elsewhere in the thread, but couldn't
manage a reply - or perhaps I haven't seen it.
That's not hostility, Des. What does my wrist have to do with it?

Yup, had exactly the same worry, for sure, total and non arguable.
Except that the buggers didn't do it.
There really was a whole different set of "unwritten rules of the
road". Sure took some getting used to, but once you do it's fine (save
for the numpty tossers that career all over the carriageways - and
believe me if you ain't seen it then think "Arc de Triomphe" on
    acid!).
