...and the SMIDSY. I can't see how indicators prevent them.

That was the other bloke mentioned that. I was just thinking of people
changing lanes with an indicator the size of christmas tree light bulb.

"The other bloke" was referring to a similar event where a chap changes
lanes into someone overtaking them. Not so much a SMIDSY I suppose as a
    YTCism.

Any fool knows that the amount of room required to make a lane change is in
inverse proportion to the amount of time an indicator has been on for.

Similary when waiting at a junction the size of gap required to pull out
safely will decrease the longer you wait - until after a while you don't
need any gap at all at can just pull out at will.

If I didn't do this every day, it'd add 5 minutes onto my commute.
It seems to. Next time you try it, just look left. :)
You gotta wear day-glo to get the full effect.

What about if it was foggy? You'd need some sort of special light I reckon.

If you stuck it on to the pillion grab handle, facing forwards so that
the beam strikes the dayglo gear ...

Oh, at least one sees bikes. I had an incident recently when I did this
and a car driver decided not to let me in.

Fair enough really, it's taking the piss barging in like this and if
someone doesn't give way to me then that's only to be expected.

My ZZR has fucking huge indicators and I never use them. I've not been
    SMIDSY'd on it yet.

Personnally I'd rather they just took them off most cars. I get fed up
of following cars with fog lights on because their drivers are too thick
to know how to turn them off or when to turn them on.

Use two, pointing forward, taped to the sides of your helmet. If you
    see them, they'll see you...

  20. Ah! I understand!! I wondered what those shirt-button barely visible
little lights on bikes were about. Tsssk! Someone'll invent nice,
friendly, furry ear-like things for helmets next.
