Right then. On darsy's recommendation I bought the Acer system from
eBuyer which arrived next day. What a cracking little setup. I can't
get over how small the box is given the specification.

What I need to do now is connect it to the wireless router in the
study. What would the font suggest as a fast and simple solution. Am I
right in thinking that all I need is a wireless hub of some sort which
will plug into the network card and pick up the signal in the house?

  2. If I've understood it correctly, all you need is a wireless network card
in your PC or use the Wi-Fi built in, you shouldn't need any cables.

As it doesn't have a wireless card I plan to plug a wireless
adapter[?] into the network card to connect to the wireless network in
    the house.

Depending on the size of your house this may not be good since it's
stuck low down and under a desk or whatever.

Personally I'd prefer a combination of wired ethernet points plus
wireless, only using wireless for laptops.

    Medium sized detached.
Darsy had an interesting system at his house which used the mains.

I have signal strength problems in my 20's pile which is built of local
very dense brick (which also knackers masonry drills very quickly). Not
just distance related. For example there is a dead spot in the kitchen
where an old chimney breast blocks the path from router upstairs.
Possibly a pikey router issue though (3Com) as a Sony PCMIA wireless
card (no external aerial though) is no better or worse than a USB
    adapter.

    Seconded.

  13. Get a router with two arial and stand the router to have one above the
other or put a repeater router in the shed in the garden. :)

have you discovered the 2 extra USB ports, a firewire port and a multi-
card reader under the panel that opens on the front of the case? Took
me 2 days to notice that.
as others have said, USB wireless stick.
