    still Chardonnay though, isn't it?

Don't get me wrong - I'll drink white burgundy - in fact, M&S of all
places have a pretty decent own-brand variety for about 6 quid a
    bottle.

I know. Doesn't stop me liking it.
Castello della Salla Chardonnay 1999 - cheap as chips and very tasty.

There's worse than German wine - Hungarian for a start. In fact the
worst wine I've ever had was Hungarian Pinot Grigio. I don't eve like
Italian Pinot Grigio, so I should have known it was going to be a
    mistake.

Strangely though, I have a perverse liking for Retsina.

I had some lovely [1] Lebanese wine in an Italian restaurant on the
    Edgware Road.

    [1] This is a lie
[2] Part of the Maroush group. Seriously.

Yes, I just prefer the French style
Yes, also sold as Macon-Villages and very similar to the Tesco Finest one

I order from M&S every couple of months as they have some decent house
wines. The Bordeaux Merlot code 00562829 is okay, although it has gone up
in price since I last bought it. Wait a few weeks and they will "discount"
it down to the right price of about a fiver.

I once drank home-brew beer that had been "filtered" through socks.

    It was fucking horrible.

But I was 14 and it had alcohol in it.
we did a Vinopolis thing about 18 months ago, and I "called it as I
tasted it" and similarly I was fairly forthright in my descriptions. I
pointed out that the Cab Sauvignon they'd given us was corked (it
tasted of sulphides - horrible) and they refunded me the cost of the
    entire tasting session.

No, I think I'm getting it. Bottle of Blue Nun, box of Ferrero Rocher,
Ultravox on the stereo, and then a cruise to a dogging spot in my white Escort
Cabriolet where a pack of Embassy left carelessly on the centre console will
convince her of my ultimate class.

that's the one - it always has the same yellow foil top, but they seem
to almost randomly change the lable.

Ask her if she knows about wine.

If she does, tell her that for a while now you've wanted to know more
about wine, that you really like some wines but not others, that your
palate is sensitive and subtle but needs educating, and would she
    please do the honours.

If she doesn't, tell her "me too", say how nice it is to have this in
common, and suggest it would be fun to share the learning experience.

Hmm. That's more of a Bacardi & Coke scenario if you ask me. Or maybe
    Malibu, with a Taboo chaser.

I've had Lebanese wine, in an otherwise rather good Lebanese Meze
place on Borough High Street I've been to a few times. But only
because it was included in the set menu - it's fairly unusual.
