Do a search for *.tmp - which should give you a list of umpteen files that
can normally be deleted, as lots of programs use that extension for
    temporary files.

    C:\temp
    c:\windows\temp
c:\program files\windowsupdate (or something along those lines) can
    usually be deleted.
Clear out temporary internet files as well.

If it's possible, and you have loads of room, you can sometimes put the
swapfile onto a secondary partition/drive if the OS allows it - usually
freeing up a couple of hundred mb. I'm not sure if that's doable on 98 or
even how to do it as it's quite a while since I used it now.

If you've run scandisk in the past, you may have a folder fill of *.chk
files which can be got rid of. I don't know of a single person who has
ever recovered any data from those.

I would have thought Yu Gi Oh would have been more Des's style.

    Imaginary creatures and all that.

  10. No, you misunderstand. I have a nightmare vision of an attempted
"humour" website, where the vitriol is barely disguised, and the
frothing at the mouth has gummed up the keyboard so much that
it might as well been written in green ink... Not a pleasant
    thought.

Are they the total sizes or the space left?

In either case, you need a bigger drive.

Yes yes, but surely one way to free C is by moving a lot of stuff off
it onto D. But if I move it onto D, will I still be able to use it?
No, the OS is on C. There's a backup version on D because I haven't
    got the Windows disk.
    Now that _is_ patronising.
I don't - I have no money. I do have a mate who can do this, but he's
    not around at the moment.
I ahve emailed you as you suggested.
    C is 1.5 GB. D is 1.96 GB.
Exactly! That's why I want to put stuff onto D, but I don't know if it
will then vanish from view if I do.
I haven't got any big games. I haven't got any big apps that could run
off a CD. I use mostly MS Office, Agent, Photoshop and PaintShop Pro.
I have Limewire and Nero for writing CDs too.
    Well, I'm not a D: I assume you mean 'your D:'? I don't know.
Can't afford it. Just spent all available funds on new printer thingie
and USB cable. I had the last printer, which recently died, for 6
years. We are only just scraping a living here.
Of course I do. I am not in any way a techie, but I have been around
PCs since 1989 or so, when it all had to be done in DOS. Thing was,
hard drives were paltry, apps were mini, and DOS was easy to
understand. I am not at all used to all the technology now. This does
not mean I do not understand the terms you are using. If I was as
_completely_ ignorant as your comment implies, what good would it have
been asking me the properties of C: ? A) I wouldn't have known what
you meant and B) I wouldn't have known how to find out.
    I repeat, no money.
And when I have I not listened?

SteveH bored us all completely to death with wittery prose along the
    lines of:
Er, as dwb says, "Why?" I don't understand people that say that you
should always upgrade, for the sake of it. It's Win '98 FFS.

Can you spend a bit less time being an IT expert and a bit more at mastering
    usenet posting?
