I've got a wild cat [called Pip]. Had him as a kitten and he's now the
most laid back animal in the house.

Jet black but the connection is that he came from Elly's old boss a
few years ago. Tiny, fluffy mad thing, started as a joke and the name
    stuck.

this was several years ago and we now have a different two. one of
which is the ex-feral one Andy mentioned.
I'm sure they'll be fine. get them used to human interaction as soon
    as possible.

  4. Do you mean wild or feral? Wild as in 'never been domesticated' (in
which case the answer would be no - no-one has ever domesticated a
Scottish Wildcat for example) but if it's a feral cat then yes - they
    will.
Our younger kitten is from a feral mother - all they need is human
contact from a very early age and they easily revert to being
    domesticated.

I seriously doubt whether its a true wild cat BTW - they don't exist
any more in most of Europe..

So the answer would be yes - they can be domesticated quite happily.
All they need is human contact. With the mother it will be a long slow
process but with the kittens (as long as they are young enough) all it
needs is human contact & food..

'Cos if they are you might want to shoo them away, sharpish...

Well, following on from Weggies post, I've got a contact website of an
agency in the North of France. I'm jsut waiting on a reply from them.
Heh, I may just do that. Give 'em a few more weeks to get used to us,
then I'll see what we can do.

For 18 years I had a cat from a tabby mated by a wildcat near Wick. It was
huge, 1.5x the weight of a domestic, had a water resistent undercoat of fur,
no dislike of water and a dog like mentality. Fun he was. I imagine Maine
Coons to be a bit like this?

Is that the one that was hanging around on the day we did the move?
Why? Is it a public health hazard? Leave 'em and they'll meet a 'natural'
end under the wheels of some car.

umno. my mum has a maine coon and he's definitely got a cat like mentality.
his fur is very soft and not especially water resistant. he is kind of
    massive though.

  15. Our previous tom did that when we got our third cat - brought in a live
adult blackbird and dumped it down in front of her. Seeing as said
third cat was only 4 months old at the time and pretty small for her
age the blackbird could almost look her in the eye. She was petrified.
In the end Torr had to kill and eat the blackbird to demonstrate how to
do it - Callie never has got the hang of it. Her only two kills so far
in 17 years are two ornamental goldfish from next doors pond.
Two of ours go out when its wet just so that they can come in for you
    to rub them dry..
