Screwfix as done it to me again and I seem to have acquired a mig
welder for a not a lot and as I know there's a few wot know about these
    things I though I'd ask.

Whats the preference for welding helmets/masks? Are the light sensitive
ones found all over that auction site any good? I also wear glasses
which may or may not be an issue I suppose.

This will probably end in tears (see sig).

    TIA

Get an light-sensitive (LCD) one. They are excellent, especially for a
beginner. Look for one which can be adjusted for shade (8-12 is adequate for
a small MIG), and also adjusted for response time (sensitivity).
I've got 2 cheap ones and a damned expensive one and they are all pretty
good. I've cut down one mask to get into hard to reach places.

This the Kende 150 that they're punting out for £130?

Have a look at this - might be a chunk too powerful, with a minimum 60A
    setting...

Otherwise, though, I've just succumbed and bought a second-hand Cebora
130 on fleaBay - so I'm in the same boat as you...

  4. Get a light-sensitive automatic one, they're *so* worth the money.

That's the one. I fully expect to be burning holes in everything, most
likely starting with the garage. . . .

Now having done my research after the event[1] I think I might put
their returns policy to the test.

For some reason I read the title as Wedding Helmets/Masks AISMPS

Absolutely. Though I've found that an inspection lamp placed overhead
can cause mine to darken unexpectedly.

Recommended make or are they all much the same?

  11. Yep. I bought a cheapy auto one a few years ago and it's still working
fine. You can, of course, pay as much as you want.
Never had a problem with binns and welding helmets of any type.

I'm not in a position to recommend, TBH, as I've only used the one.
Mine's a Sealey, I think; it was supposedly on special offer at the
    local tool emporium.

It does the job; has adjustable tint.

  13. I've got a cheapy light sensitive one.
Same here with binns, no problems.
Best thing to have next to a decent pair of welding gloves.
Turning the florescent lights on over the bench some time will trigger
    it.

Ditto, got my helmet from fleabay, about 28 quid and postage, auto
darkening the lot, excellent and has a grinder setting too.
