I bought some Nikwax stuff for waterproofing the wet-weather gear. Now, I have two choices, I can either try to ensure that I manage to get all the powder residues out of the washing machine before I put them in to wash [1] or I can, apparently, hand-wash. Dunno if any-ones waterproofed stuff using either option before, but basically which on am I best going for? Arriving soaking wet somewhere doesn't appeal to me very much, especially when you have to put the gear on again the following day not quite dry.. [1] And if I wash them in the machine, would it affect how the machine manages to wash normal clothes afterwards? -- Lesley CBR600FW SBS#11 (with oak-leaf cluster) BOTAFOT#101A UKRMHRC#12 BONY#54P BOB#18 Real burds don't take hormones, they rage naturally
I didn't use this stuff in the end when I needed to re-waterproof kit: it was some sort of spray. I'd be tempted to handwash, myself. It will if you don't rinse it. How do you fancy waterproof shirts? -- John (jsp) SV 650 Black it is And Naked
Being a burd in a burd only household, I'd struggle to manage that one ;o) -- Lesley CBR600FW SBS#11 (with oak-leaf cluster) BOTAFOT#101A UKRMHRC#12 BONY#54P BOB#18 Real burds don't take hormones, they rage naturally
I used that stuff a couple of years ago, but bottled out and did it by hand. I just wasn't sure if any residue detergent in the machine would affect the process. The stuff works well enough though.
TX Direct Wash In? I use that on my waterproof jackets in the machine and have never had any problems.
Run the machine empty and with no powder in the drawer once, have a look in the drawer to see if there is still residue, if there is run it again. You'd know it was done but it's a faff. Yes, LARP kit. Or are on a 48 hour no base camp adventure and you're in kit the whole time. Nikwax kit and a thick wollen cloak. Lovely. You repeat the wash and check for residue thing afterwards.
Hmm, waterproofed t-shirts would be a bit of a spoiler IMO. -- John (jsp) SV 650 Black it is And Naked
