FOAK: Unlocking a Nokia 6230

I've rebuilt the phone which fell from my tankbag on the M4, with the
intention of giving it to my girlfriend. Before I splashed out on a new
case and battery I checked it over by using the sim card, battery and
memory card from the 6230i I bought to replace it, everything worked
fine. My phone is locked to 02, but she's on Vodafone. I need it
unlocking.

I've searched the web and acquired the unlock codes from here
http://unlock.nokiafree.org/ , followed instructions and entered them
all at some point or other with the sim card out of the phone, but
nothing happens. I don't even get an unsuccessful message, the code is
all I see on screen.

Anyone got any clues? Am I doing something wrong?

 

ISTR that these online things give an option of about 10 "potential" codes,
and you have a finite amount of times you can enter codes beofre it blocks
(I may be wrong on this)

Personally I've just nipped into the local market and got the resident phone
geek to unlock them for a nominal fee in the past.

 

O2 phones are not usually locked, have you actually tried the Voda sim
in it yet

Yes, my company phone is on Voda and I get the "Phone Restricted"
message when I swop the sim card over into the 6230.

 

Google smartdct4calc, it comes with loon proof instructions as well.

 

In uk.rec.motorcycles, Lozzo belched forth and ejected the following:

O2 should give you the code for free if the phone's more than 12 months
old.

Try that.
