I got one of those letters too. The nice people at the other end of the
phone line explained that the tax computer had blown a fuse, or
something, and they were having to ask for confirmation from everyone.

I gave them all the details of the company I was working for at the
time and they said: "No such company". I rang them up again, explained
that the Daily Mail Group did indeed exist, and the nice lady said that
they'd given the job of sorting out the ****-up to the most useless
department in the tax hierarchy... :))

Anyway, it got sorted, and I was told I wouldn't have to pay my missing
NI all over again. It was something like 300 quid they wanted.

    SP scribbled:
I've sent them two letters very clearly stating I've received the
interim payment, and a third asking if they'd received the first one,
so they've not got a leg to stand on if they try to claim it back.

    Quite.

Someone needs to ejaculate. And not just into a tissue.

    What about a UKRM whip-round ?

I couldn't cos I was on strike, but had to pay the backdated amount of
pension credits (or whatever they are called) for the full year, when
    we went back to work.
Most unhelpfull people I have ever met, the social.

Unfortunately, as far as I am aware they are entitled to reclaim any
monies owing to them, even if you have informed them of their error.
Hence my Mum isn't spending the money she's been overpaid. Yet.

There was even a report in the paper recently about a woman who was
being hounded by the SS to repay the monies they had inadvertantly
overpaid to her (now deceased) father in error.

Well, I certainly agree with you on that one! Mind you, if they have
their way we will be working until we're 70, providing we don't pop our
clogs before then and bugger their calculations up by failing to fulfil
the quota they are looking for in order to pay the current pension
    funds.

  15. The answer is, no matter how many hundreds of thousands of pounds you've
paid into the system, if you ain't skint, you'll get bugger all. That's
what I was told, anyway. Just stop paying that stamp.

  16. I'm one million percent certain, that there won't be any such thing as a
state pension by the time I reach pension age (if - FFS - 65!! If I'm
still alive then, I'm going to sue the tobacco and beer companies).

All that NI has been thrown away, in my opinion.

  18. Not here in Paradise we're not. Our 'life expectancy' recently went over
80 for the first time. Men are somewhere around 77 ('can't be arsed
    checking for the exact figure).

  19. What gets me is us blokes are due to die at age 70, assuming we don't
ride motorcycles of course. Or smoke. Or drink. Or walk down the fucking
    high street. Or breath.
