I have a laptop, that I also use in the caravan to stream TV
occasionally, which is fine so long as I have a good signal. So I got
to thinking, are there external TV tuners available that can output to,
    say, a computer (VGA) monitor?

Or can you get such a thing as a TV to VGA cable? Had a search of
Maplins and couldn't find anything suitable.

Main reason is I have a small 10" monitor that's a brilliant size for
our small caravan and if I could hook this up to, say, a Freeview box
or somesuch then it'd be ideal to just leave in the 'van instead of
having toi take the laptop everywhere .. caravans being known for their
    security and such .. :)

Anyone any ideas, pointers, links etc ... Cheers .. :)

For less than £20 you can get a frewview USB dongle. Needs windows to
    work though.

You can certainly get scart to vga cables, & you can plug a freeview
box straight into a monitor using s-video (if they both support it).
Whether a freeview box would work with a scart to vga cable though I
    know not.

I've got a KWorld TVBox 1440. Plugs into your monitor vga port and
allows you to plug in normal AV, S-Video etc from a freeview box, dvd
player, xbox 360 or PS2. This one also has an analog tuner built in.
    Search for VGA Gamer Box.

I've just done a search "Kworld TVbox 1440" and you should be able to
pick it up for around £35 delivered (ebay 150383711583 £23.50 or
250507015862 £35) or some online retailers have it stock .

Can't see any with DVB built in which would save an extra box.

    There are newer models out.

    Depends on the freeview box.

Years ago I bought a freeview USB stick which turned out to be a complete
POS, so I bought a scart converter for the PC, out of several STBs only one
    was compatible.

Some freeview boxes can be changed in the setup menu between composite video
and RGB output, so that's worth checking before you give up.
