Nah, teach the dog not to chew things that don't belong to it. It's not hard
and it's a lot less strressful than discovering it's killed a rack of CD's
or a DVD player. (Or worse still, a nice shiney new RC helicopter bodyshell)

Labs like your Retriever get bored very easily and
All dogs get bored easily, but that's no excuse for eating their home or
    surroundings.

Get a Kong Toy like this straight away
Them things make the dogs fart and they make the farts stink.

    When they get
My Boxer made the first one into a two-piece toy within half an hour.
And runs all over the carpet?
Boxer + Labrador = Boxer. A VERY good thing:)

It's impending arrival forced me to clean all the RC kit up and put it in
    the cupboard heh.

I was busy working on a heli and my last Boxer was busy chewing the nose off
a Huey Cobra I'd built. He was only a little pup at the time and it WAS me
who took him into the loft workshop, so I really couldn't blame him and it
did keep him from getting under feet.

He soon learned that helicopters weren't HIS toys though and eventually
became so used to them I could fly them in the garden while he wandered
about ignoring them. He was like that come "Bonfire night" too. Rockets and
bangers going off all night and he'd occasionally look up when one flew
over, then carry on doing what he was before. It certainly never seemed to
    bother him anyway.
