The beer and coffee will dehydrate you. Are you a freshwater prawn?

I know there's some medical types here, so:

I was at a dinner party last night and I thought that the food was *way*
too salty. Being polite, I ate-it-all-up.

I can still taste salt on my tounge, despite having demolished ~2 litres
of water, 0.5 litres of fizzy pop and ~4 pints of beer and coffee.

Advice please? More water, or what?

I'd not used mine in the dark much up to now.

The dashboard full beam light seems bloody bright [1], is yours the
same? I'm wondering if the previous owner has stuck the wrong bulb in
    there

    [1] distractingly so

Well, I bought mine off my old man after he'd hung up his boots. It has
a strong headlight [~100W on main beam, I'd guess] which works quite
well on these unlit roads. As a result of this, I don't notice the dash
    much.

Milk or yoghurt would be good at getting rid, I think, but your
problem is (was) that it's not a 'real' salty taste - that would
disperse quite quickly. No, you've been taken in by the hype and
brainwashed into thinking that salt_is_bad; this has lead to your
imagination ing overtime and placing the salty taste in your mind.

Solution? Eat more salt and you'll get used to it.

Hmm, saw a story once in the paper about an ex-miner who's top came
off the cruet and dumped an entire salt pot into his food.

Since he had been used to taking salt tablets from his mining days, he
stirred it in and carried on eating.

He died shortly after with electrolyte imbalance.

So i'd say if you're stilll alive you won't have any lasting damage
    ;-)

Not sure why people oversalt during cooking. I always undersalt (Well,
except pasta and spuds which really have a need to be cooked with
salt) and leave a saltpot on the table.

Oh, and I can't eat a hard or soft boiled egg without salt. Dunno why

I never, ever put salt in cooking, or on my food. There's more than
enough salt in a properly balanced diet.

Yukk. Remind me never to eat at your house
Well, a 'properly balanced diet' would, by definition, contain just
the right amount of salt for the body's needs, but depending on what
you normally eat there may _not_ be enough salt for an active
    lifestyle.

I eat very little in the way of 'processed' foods, so if I didn't add
salt to cooking and/or at table I really wouldn't get enough of it.
And if that occurs when I'm doing any degree of exercise I very
rapidly start to suffer from heat exhaustion.

Cast your mind back a couple of years and remember how porly porl was
when you guys came over here - of course, the primary cause was
dehydration, but loss of salt, through sweating, can mean that the
body just won't recover quickly through fluid ingestion alone. A
supplement of ordinary salt can be sufficient to 'cure' this very
    rapidly indeed.

It really annoys me that it's now virtually impossible to buy salt
tablets - when I'm skiing I nowadays have to resort to oversalting my
food to a ridiculous amount, not because of taste, but because I'll be
    knackered without it.
