FOAK: The Spins - Am I Going To Die?

I had a mild attack of the spins tonight. No obvious provocation, attack
lasted a couple of minutes. I'd been eating, had maybe a glass or so of
wine, got up and washed my hands (messy food) and started to feel slightly
dizzy on the way back to the table. The dizziness increased after I sat
down, and there was interference with vision. Wife and child reported that
my eyes were scanning rapidly to and fro on a horizontal plane. No other
physical distress, psychological disturbance (apart from NFM), loss of
conscience etc, and the symptoms went away again after a couple of minutes.
If I'd been riding the bike, I'd have had to pull over, but I wouldn't have
had too much trouble doing that safely.

I've seen this sort of thing induced by spinning people in an office chair
for 30 seconds or so, at a CAA demonstration. Needless to say, nothing like
    that was done to me.

I'm not going to trouble the medical profession unless it happens again, but
I'd be interested in likely causes. Are my semi-circular canals glitching?

Shame, you could have buried someone under the patio...
Probably. Google for "benign positional vertigo".

If it persists, they'll probably bung you on a spinning table during an
attack to try to sort it out. No biggie.

Or you might have a brain tumour.

    Coo, interesting. Ta.
Well, it sounds a bit like it, although I've no history of it, or any of the
head trauma/migraine stuff. I didn't have any nausea, either.
****. Better buy a Goldwing, quickly.

I've had them recently as has about 5 people from work.
It's a virus according to the local quack.
You'll feel fine for a day and then it'll come on sporadically for the next
week or so according to those in the know at work.

I felt fine all day yesterday and then felt sick and dizzy last night.

    Heh. Nicely taken.

I was in Borders in Bristol on Saturday, waiting for the rest of the fambly
and leafing through the bike mags. I was on an artice about original
GL1000s in Classic Maniacs when they showed up and diagnosed a GoldWing itch
that was going to have to be scratched eventually. I asked if this was an
encouragement to bow to the inevitable, but received no clear answer...

The Hippo has two problems: the colour, and the Windjammer. Hmm.

I've still got all the stuff to un-Windjammer it. And there's a can of
Halford's Gloss Black in the garage somewhere...

  13. Don't worry old chap, there's nothing to fear. Your condition has been
brought on by what we chaps in the medical profession like to call
'Dnepritis'; in other words, close proximity to large ugly lumps of
Eastern Bloc motorcycles. The simple cure is to avoid all horrible cheap
motorcycles for a while and get plenty of fresh air.

FFS! What's happening to standards of English usage in this group?

    It's "May I still masturbate?".

    And the answer's no.

  20. I'd say you just spazzed-out for a moment and it's nothing to worry
about unless it happens a lot. I'm not a medial expert though - in fact
I'm not really much of fan of doctors at all and am probably more of an
    anti-medical expert. Non-alcohol-induced, one-off vertigo attacks aren't
really that uncommon though, are they?

And, yes, I'm sorry to say you are definitely going to die.
