OK. So I have to drive from Southampton to Edinburgh by Friday, I'm
planning to set off in about 2 hours. This is plainly madness.

    How far will I get?

Twyford Down. There's always a big crash there on the M3.

Hmph. It's a pity they didn't build the tunnel, at least it would be
    nice and warm.

The roads east of the Pennines are fine. I'd be inclined to do the
usual A34 to Oxford, then the A43 over to the M1, then M1 and A1 the
    rest of the way.

    Edinburgh. It's a trick question, isn't it?
