  3. PPE is defined as "...any device designed to be worn or held by an
    individual for protection against one or more health and safety
    hazards"
    European motorcycling industry:

    "If a manufacturer explicitly claims, or implies in sale literature and
    /or advertisement that a garment offers protection because of special
    features, these additional features shall be qualified as "PPE". As
    such they must comply with the provisions of the PPE Directive. The
    specific features may materialise in e.g. impact protectors for limb
    and/or back, pads for elbow and/or shoulder and protection from cuts
    and abrasions (not exclusive listing of examples)."

    Product descriptions from the Spyke website:

    "Protected from head to foot Legs included"; "Never have moptorcycle
    jackets achieved such high performance in protection and innovation";
    "knuckles protectors"; "Keprotec... combines the characteristics of
    lightness, comfort, abrasion resistance and low heat conductivity";
    "absolute protection".

    Since I do not see any claims, still less evidence, that Spyke products
    are approved to the requirements of the European Standards (with the
    exception of those relating to limb and back protectors), in this
    instance the only "CE" mark their garments and gloves are entitled to
    carry is the one which means...

    "Caveat emptor".
