They also weld on bigger lockstops to stop tank slappers. Nuff said.

Not all Loz. Cost is important but also crashability. If a set that
falls apart everytime you crash it is going to work out very
expensive. A good look around the paddock will show some decent
leathers on most racers. Heinz Gerkin and Spyke crash well.

    No.

What was I supposed to have done, or are you now getting
the realisation that you've just really badly embarrassed
    yourself?

Traffic lights, Cannon St. Red lid. Red and black coat.

A hearty "Hello, Nick. Hello, Linda", then fucked off down Eastcheap.

I coulda sworn it were you, except for the gash purple GPz500.

Obviously not then, as the only bikes I own are
    red and Italian!

Who have you skinned now? And is there enough left over for a lampshade or
    two?

It's mine as well. I may make the effort and get the Guzzi out on a
track just to see what it's like when not on a road surface that's trying
    to throw me off.

Although I can't see the point in buying proper boots if I'm not going to
wear them again and affordable suits are usually in such awful colours.

I'm assuming lace up boots, open face and Belstaff over leathers are not
on; so what are the clothing requirements?

  12. Well, your wish is about to be granted. Readers of a delicate
disposition should skip this posting, or have a bucket close by. :)

The performance will vary hugely depending on skin area. Were it to be
subjected to impact abrasion testing on the EN 13595-2
"Cambridge-type" machine, thin epidermis from the arm (0.025 mm)
would abrade through in as little as one microsecond. By comparison,
thick epidermis (1.5 mm) from the heel of a bare-foot walker might take
as long as one second. The bottom of the epidermis is the layer of
living cells giving rise to the keratinised dry exterior surface on our
    bodies.

The dermis below the epidermis contains blood vessels, nerves, fat and
a lot of collagen fibres. This gives human skin its strength and is the
equivalent to animal hides which are almost entirely collagen. It is
suspected this will abrade not unlike weak, wet leather, or faster as
it is not tanned and therefore not chemically cross-linked. So on the
same impact abrasion apparatus, the arm (0.5 mm) might give one hundred
milleseconds, the scalp (3 mm) two seconds, and the heel (10 mm) five
to ten seconds, until you get through all the shock absorbing fat and
fibres. The machine will then require steam cleaning! :-(*)

These are all total guesses - albeit educated ones - since there is
no known data on this sort of experimentation (unless Channel 4's
current season of documentaries on torture is about to reveal something
different). The closest approximation is published results of cut
testing of forehead skin in experiments on car windscreens, which
showed wet Chammy of the same thickness was a good cadaver surrogate.

    HTH.

one piece or two-piece-zip-together full leathers; "proper boots",
    gold-star full-face lid, decent gloves.

What size is your head - I have a couple of spare lids.

I haven't, but intend to on Friday, if I can find a bike shop near-ish
    to me that sells em.

Otherwise, if I do win the auction at the current price, it's so cheap
I don't mind if they don't fit - I'll just sling 'em straight back on
    eBay.

    Hmmm, that's a point.

Anybody know if the Caberg Justissimo has a gold star? Mine's 100-odd
miles away, so I can't really check at the moment.

And I'd better get myself some new gloves too, given that my hands had
cuts and bruises after my crash - even though the gloves didn't come off
and are still in one piece.
