Ok, Found a really old game called Flying Tigers. Dos Game, downloaded, installed and runs on XP but soooooooooooooooo fast it's unplayable. Is there a command that will slow down the system to run it properly? Nostalgic reasons to play it.............. Cheers -- Robbo Trophy 1200 1998 BotaFOF #19. Look up DosBox - it's a DOS emulator that will run DOS progams (and most games) at the proper speed. Works quite well IME, but you will need a "frontend" program to make it easier. Give it a chance to get it set up and then it's simple to use. In fact, here, DosBox: http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/ Some frontends: http://members.home.nl/mabus - D-Fend http://www.ingoknito.de/produkte/dbfrontend/ dbfrontend Also, for more old games: http://www.abandonia.com/ For many old games sites: http://www.abandonwarering.com/
AHA! Just got that..........need to investigate it further Hmmm, I'll look at them later to see whats what Funny how those old games seemed so "Cutting Edge" back then............ Still great fun Cheers -- Robbo Trophy 1200 1998 BotaFOF #19. E.O.S.M 2001/2002/2003/2004/2005 B.O.S.M 2003, 2004, 2005 FURSWB#1 KotL..YTC449 PM#7 ..
Not sure if it works in XP but I used to play my old Ultima games with MoSlo, sometimes called Mo'Slo.
Also, as a side point, if something doesn't work in XP try the following: Right click program (Not shortcut) Click properties Select compatability Tab at the top Tick the "Run this program in compatability mode for" and try Win95 or Win98. If still doesn't work select all other options (256 colours etc.) and turn off any sound in the game. HTH
In uk.rec.motorcycles, Christofire amazed us all with this pearl of wisdom: I have to agree. I was a real arcade nut and spent many (perhaps too many!) hours in there. It all went Pete Tong with the advent of 3D IMHO.
Doom3 is a good example for me. The visuals are amazing, but too much. I don't enjoy playing it as it's a bit *too* atmospheric. I like games where I can jump in and enjoy myself. So, gran turismo 4 and america's army do the trick for me.
I've built a PC that's capable of playing Doom3 at obscene levels of audio and visual quality, but the problem is, as you say, it's too atmospheric. I'm too fucking scared to play it. I even put the "flashlight always in hand" mod in it, but it's still brown trousers time.
<snip again> Take a look at cpukiller - you can slow the cpu down or add a program that you want restricting. Can act as a launcher for all your dos games. I use it for xcom - enemy unknown (the version re-compiled for win95, not the dos4gw version) - slows it down to a usable level. hmmm its still installed, might have another blast at that tonight. Si.

In uk.rec.motorcycles, Christofire amazed us all with this pearl of wisdom: I couldn't get it to play on 2.8GHz laptop with anything resembling smoothness but I get what you're saying. I like adrenalin but I like my mind to be in a happy place when it happens! Hurrah! Driving games and shoot 'em ups[1] rank in the top 3 of my favourites. [1] The old style shoot 'em ups were great: Galaxian being one of my faves. *Sigh*, how times change and how old we get - 'lest we remember.
In uk.rec.motorcycles, Ferger amazed us all with this pearl of wisdom: <Evil cackle> I have the very same, right here on my PC, yes, the Williams one. Do you want a copy? It won't cost you anything, the first one never does. </Evil Cackle> I used to like, but was pretty shit at Tempest although I wasn't bad at Tron. No, actually I was shit at that, too. Did you ever get your degree or are you flailing around in a world of knowing you fucked up because of a computer game?
