Ahh well, perhaps if you'd made that a bit more obvious...
I've 'heard' it too, but haven't seen the evidence on which it's
based. In any event, it's referring, I think, to the ease with which
one can become addicted, rather than the 'strength' of that addiction.
Cold turkey of a massive Heroin addiction has been known to be fatal,
IIRC. Certainly much more severe symptoms than nicotine withdrawal.

He rang me last night... sounded happy go lucky, but when I politely pointed
out he could **** off if he thinks I'm going to hang around waiting for the
apparently inevitable battering, he can think again... to which he came out
with manner of pisspoor reasons for why he'd been in that frame of mine when
I walked into the pub, none of them which anyone of sound mind would
normally consider as justification for the sort of stuff he's been getting
    up to of late.

On a more positive note, he started sessions with a professional counsellor
    yesterday.

So anyway, we shall see... I've not quite walked away yet, but I'm all for
being a fully paid up member of the 'Self Preservation Society', if it looks
like violence or threats of, is on the longer term menu.

Ok: I've done truckloads of coke and I appear to be okay (unless
    you're Muck).
    Fair point.

Recreational heroin use among middle-class professionals is more
widespread that commonly thought, though, which kind of fucks any
    "it's 100% bad" crap from the safety-nazis.
That's only an issue if one gets addicted...

I just take particular except to Phil Launchbury (or anyone else, come
to that) telling me that they know more about my propensity to
    addiction than I do.

My, and his exs thoughts exactly, at least when he's being really violent.
This much, we have known for sometime... but when they keep having good
periods, and keep saying 'I just need some time, give me some slack', for a
while, you start to think maybe they'll sort themselves out... but after a
    few times, enough is enough.
He's accepted the services of a professional counsellor, all paid for
unbeknown to him, by people around him, and met up with them last night
    apparently.

For the record, it appears this is all linked way back to events that
happened in his childhood, and whilst no excuse, it was certainly what
perhaps led him onto the start of the road of 'doing too much shit, for too
long', in an attempt to get away from his past.

So anyway, we shall try that route for now, and review the situation in a
    while.

I accept it may end up being the own way to protect him from himself if all
else fails, but effectively turning grass, and contacting the Old Bill about
him, is an option that I'd rather someone else took upon themselves! ;-)

I would however, if he gets any worse, do it if I had to... for his sake,
never mind any poor **** who ends up on the end of his temper.

    Cheers for the advice :)

You have to get into the frame of mind that they're there to line someone
    elses pockets...

....which I do constantly, and yet I still go back for more.

    "Twat!"
    Heh.

Did you ever get hold of a manual for your van engine, in the end btw?

I am now bereft of any Perkins propelled motors, and although it doesn't
list the Sherpa amongst the veritable sins it covers, I believe the Haynes
BoL I have for the Maestro / Montego lumps, will cover most bases relating
    to yours.

I genuinely think it's just that he and his cronies are not very
    bright.
Some people are unable to believe/accept that others are not guilty of
the same failings and weaknesses of character as they are.
sure, but "never attribute to malice that which can easily be explained
    by stupidity".

I have no idea what you're on about. You don't make sense from one
sentence to the next. One clause to the next.

Yeah, but why does he /care/? He's responding to my every post with
these amusingly-infantile jibes. That suggests to me that he cares,
but he claims he doesn't. What is the point?

If he doesn't care, and he knows I don't, then it must be to try to
influence the opinion of others. I doubt there's any UKRM reader who
doesn't have an opinion about me already, but I can't see those
    opinions being changed by Muck.
Very true. I must remember that.

You appear to lack insight into your behaviour and seem to be oblivious to
the crassness and inappropriateness thereof; however, it is more likely that
you know what you are doing but elect to switch off the moral and ethical
considerations by which normal people are bound. If you know what you are
doing, you are responsible for your behaviour and thus liable for its
consequences to other people. If you don't know what you are doing, you
should be suspended from duty on the grounds of diminished responsibility
and the provisions of the Mental Health Act should apply

Yes. I got a Haynes Diesel service guide off ebay which covers it; soon
after that the local motor factors was knocking out new shrink wrapped
    ones for *50p* - Bugger.

I also got a Maestro lump manual. So am pretty manualed up ATM.

What none of them say is how to deal with a sump plug that neither
tightens or undoes but simply rotates and is on the 'leaking' end of the
    'weeping' scale.

I went for the cover it in chemical metal fix which gives 6000 miles or
six months (whichever is the sooner) to come up with a proper fix.

Why would I want to change you? Maybe I just want a long thread, with

I'm happy to keep calling you a tosser all day long, coz that's what you
