Search here for a project local to you

    http://www.turning-point.co.uk/

    or

    www.addaction.org.uk

Give them a bell and see what support services they offer for friends
    and family of addicts.

There's some information on the sites that may help.

There may be local drugs projects run by churches, local voluntary
organisations, through the local council. These may or may not fit his
needs. EG a project working to get female prostitutes off smack
    wouldn't suit him.

Do your best, but sometimes you have to walk away or you'll go down
    with them.

    Best of luck with it.
Depends on the area you are in. Usual scenario is he hurts himself or
someone else enough to have the police involved. If there's is someone
in the police station with half a brain who is clued up on local drug
intervention policies (if your area has them) then this can be the
start of a system approach to dealing with it.
You're bang on here by the sounds of it.
Anyone get a mini video camera? Say you want to film mates up the pub
for prosperity. Observe him over evening, play it back to him when
he's straight. If he doesn't smash the camera of course.

  3. A bit of both. To cut a long story short I asked for help but it was
their decision what sort of help I got. From the moment I said I wanted
to get clean to the moment I actually *got* clean was, give or take a
month or two, about 5 years.
I was never sectioned, I just ended up in a place that was populated by
    people that were.

  4. Too late. I already did.
Yeah, pink with purple flashes on the legs. Ghastly.

Holy Caroly - Now I see he's wearing a cape! A red one, with goggles and
    beagles ears!

    Aaaaaaaggggghhhhhh!!!!!!!!

  6. That's a good start. Try http://www.ukna.org/ as well - Loads of meeting
all over the country. They were for me tbh but I went to well over a
hundred meetings so there must be something to it. They all go out for
coffees and stuff after as well.
The mates up the pub thing is a good idea, but best if he's not in it.
I've seen photos of when I was like that and all it serves is for me to
feel bitter and angry over the past.

Well that's the crux of the matter, innit? Even Blaney can't admit he's
    wrong, can he?

Well, the best of luck to you. As I said, I've done it a few times
already. But for the last few months, I've been looking after myself. I
feel better for it and the guilt of not helping people in distress, has
    all but faded.

  13. Didn't know you were a part time druggie. You learn something every day.

Is it willpower or is it you just being immensely stubborn over an issue
until you decide not to be?

I'm making the distinction because I don't think I have much willpower
per se but I know I can be extremely stubborn. Willpower is generally
considered a virtue while stubbornness is not.

I think the other manifestations of your "willpower" are simply you
being bloody awkward and inflexible as is your wont.

I can stop that any time I want. However, it is amusing to me for him
to stick to making puerile playground insults, as if I might care.

It means I put up with a situation I don't like, instead of resolving
    it.
I gamble because I enjoy studying form, calculating odds...and working
out when the bookie has it wrong.
