Look, I said I'd just post replys to this effect every time he posted,

That's kind of where I was coming from with the wondering about whether or
not he could be sectioned for the foreseeable, if for no other reason than
to force him to dry out, as the drink seems to spark the more violent stuff
off more than anything, and he insists on drinking at least four pints every
afternoon.

I don't do horses... I don't go to casinos... but leave me near a fruitie

I never had a problem as such, up until about five years ago... my bro in
law likes them, and, when we were down the pub etc., I used to watch him
play and lob the odd quid in... and it went on from there - ended up
virtually destroying me at one point, when I had had some other serious shit
in life getting to me, and I started to gamble more and more to escape from
it all. I ended up fucking my HND up, and got us very deep in the shit
financially.

Which is something I should reflect upon more, everytime I get tempted to
have another flutter.

It could be worse... I could have taken up serious drinking... or gone down
the drugs route, but I didn't... justifying fruities by thinking 'well I
could be using the money to feck my liver up' however, is not big, nor
clever. ;-)

It's unlikely that you can get him help unless he voluntarily checks
in for it. Doesn't sound as if that's going to happen and behaviour
has to be a long way from 'normal' before someone is sectioned.

You could try talking to his GP but unless you're a close relative
it's probably going nowhere. Alternatively tell the Police you've been
threatened, why you think it's happened and it may start the ball
rolling.
