Oh I know all about that. I didn't do it because of the "laugh because
she's ugly and poor", it was more a demonstration of the levels of
denial that can be achieved.

She sounded gorgeous on the phone, she told me she was fat and that she
was having trouble with her neighbours etc etc, but I didn't want to
believe that someone who sounded so nice could be anything like the way
she described.

I wasn't on a six month bender and I knew very early on that is wasn't
going to work but she really was a great lass, she just had a lot of
problems and didn't want to deal with them.

That is of course complete bollocks. I reckon it's me that had a
problem. I mean, going all that way for Miss.World would be a bit of a
stretch and put a strain on even the bestest of relationships.
