  1. I used to like taking acid with a cocktail of ecstasy and amphetamines.

Fooking marvellous! I went on many a mind bending trip on that lot.

BTW, I've never felt the urge to do acid again, either. I do sometimes
get a hankering for an ecstasy tab or a bit of speed but I can't just
stop at one, so that's not an option. The other stuff you mentioned is
grossly overrated, so I wouldn't bother personally; it's also a bit of a
    pig when you start rattlin'.
I liked that when it came out but it gets on my tits now, a bit like
'say hello, wave goodbye' before David Grey got hold of it.

When I was younger I had a mate who was seriously addicted to hard
drugs, heroin, speed etc. I saw what was happening to him and it just
never entered my mind to go the same route. I didn't study the effects
of individual drugs, just lumped them all under the banner of "Take this
and it'll **** you up forever". Prior to that I'd been in the mob, and
drugs just weren't done, full stop.
Now that I have virtually given up drinking and don't miss it at all, I
don't think I have any great wish to replace it with something else that
costs more and has possible long term effects and addiction issues. I
still smoke, but not anywhere near as much as I did, so I am seriously
thinking of throwing that in too.

I know this question will open a whole new can of worms, but is the
desire to take any kind of drug fuelled by a need to replace something
that is missing from a person's life, or is it merely their wish to
experience a higher/different level of conciousness?

None of them are for me. I just have a dislike of drugs, even
    paracetamol.

  8. I did it just to see what it was like and liked the effects in the
beginning but I soon got greedy with it and in the pursuit of a bigger
and better hit it ended up replacing the stuff I *did* have in my life.

It really is the worst and you, it would seem have the knowledge without
the benefit of hindsight[1]. I'd keep it that way mate.

[1] Notwithstanding seeing what it was doing to other people.

I've tried most stuff that you didn't need to inject. Most are
over-rated for what they cost, IMO. I never got on with acid, but I had
some fucking hilarious times on psylocybin. Took a lot of speed at one
point, but stopped (instantly, BTW) when I realised that speed didn't
actually feel that enjoyable and made you act like an asshole. Still,
it's handy if you need to stay awake writing magazine articles for 76
    hours straight...

None felt even mildly addictive to me, BTW, even gak.

I think I'd probably enjoy marijuana, but unfortunately, I appear to be
allergic to it - puff away, mildly euphoric for about 10 minutes, then
puking my guts up for 1/2 and hour.

I don't do anything except alcohol and the occasional cigar, and
haven't done for years. I don't think the drugs did me any harm at all,
but I know for sure I'd be a bit healthier if I cut down on booze a bit
    more.

Still, you're a long time dead.

Had the same effect on me too. The one time my eldest daughter tried it
she collapsed on the floor puking after 5 minutes and slipped into
unconciousness 5 minutes after that. Luckily she was amongst friends,
one of whom was still sober and straight, who called an ambulance.
Apparently it lowered her BP to such level that her body damn near shut
down altogether. She spent three days in hospital and three weeks off
work. She hasn't touched any unprescribed drugs since.

Same here, if the biological systems need a bit of a hand to deal with
something bad, then it's ok imho.

This is what dope does to me, although not to this extreme. I once spent
a whole evening puking being pale, feeling like shit because I tried a
    joint once.

Hmm. Physical addiction is the result of your brain's biochemistry
adapting to the effects of the drug. Psychological addiction is the
"habit" part of addiction, the desire for the drug's effects; and
    completely different from physical addiction.

  19. How about the foolishness of saying something will *never* happen when
    the future is unknown?

After all, everyone *knew* the Titanic would NEVER sink - until it did.
No - I'm telling you that you are wrong on a matter of human nature -
just like the rest of us frequently are.

I could (for example) say "I would never cheat on Cheryl". And I would
mean it with every fibre of my being.

But what happens if I have a nervous breakdown? What happens if our
    circumstances change dramatically?

I can't forsee the future and it would be foolish of me to attempt it.
At best I can say "I have never yet cheated on Cheryl and will try to
ensure that that situation continues for the rest of our lives
    together"

    You see the difference?
