FOAK: Scalp care

Like many slapheads I have my hair quite short. In fact I cut it
myself once a week with electric clippers. As a result I have no need
for shampoo and wash my head with the same bar of simple soap I use
    for the rest of me.

Sometimes my scalp reacts and becomes sore, red and flaky in areas. Is
there an oil or treatment I can apply or use as regular scalp care?

    TIA

Get some decent shampoo seriously. Particularly as you're more prone to
    sunburn.

I always had an itchy scalp until I started using some ludicrously
expensive Dermalogica stuff, and now it never bothers me.

You'd probably get the same effect with baby shampoo.

Head and Shoulders. Stops dandruff (which is flaking skin) and it smells
    nice too.

Soap on heads isn't a particularly good idea as it's too "drying".

Extra virgin olive oil seems to be the tonic of choice.

  10. I use Nizoral/Nizorette once a week and a 2-in-1 dandruff shampoo
every day otherwise (currently Tesco's; Head and Shoulders if you're
upmarket). I used to have a lot of trouble with flakiness, but it turned
out I was overdoing the Nizoral (3x/week).

My b-i-l shaves his head. Just spoke to him and he swears by shampoo
containing tea tree oil. It used to be just a Body Shop thing but some of
the mainstream brands add it now.

    According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tea_tree_oil his anecdotal
    evidence is supported by science
