So after 5 weeks of standing SWMBO's diesel Punto with four year old OEM battery starts instantly. The Westco I treated the MX5 to in June and was working perfectly when I left was flat as a tack. Can I recovery it with an Optimate Mk 1 somehow? It won't light even the "I am FUBAR" diagnostic LED. I made a point of not arming the ancient Clifford car alarm it has, but could it have still been drwaing a gnat's cock of current? -- +----------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Voxan Roadster Gilera Nordwest * 2 Yamaha WR250Z | | Gilera GFR * 2 Moto Morini 2C/375 Morini 350 "Forgotten Error" | +----------------------------------------------------------------+
If the Westco is anything like the Hawker Odyssey AGM battery then an Optimate is not man enough to kickstart it into life. Have you tried putting a charged battery in parallel with the Westco just to get the Optimate past the initial diagnostic? Once it is in charge mode it might do the job.
Cant remember the brand, but the cat 5 alarm on my SO FTO actually draws more current when unarmed than when armed. As confirmed by the nice man from the AA when we worked out why the battery was dead.
<goes in to garage> That's got an amber light lit. Time will tell. -- +-----------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Visit my Home Page : http://www.flarefox.com/Lesbordes | | "Do not adjust your mind - there is a fault in the reality" | +-----------------------------------------------------------------+
Either that or an old fashioned charger on it for a few mins. Our Westco was completely flattened for a day or so on the MX5 by the sidelights being left on (wasn't me, honest). Doesn't appear to have suffered for it, which is good, as they are quite expensive as I'm sure you know.
I'll be prodding about with a multimeter on the earth lead once I get the battery charged again. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Voxan Roadster Gilera Nordwest * 2 Yamaha WR250Z | | Gilera GFR * 2 Moto Morini 2C/375 Morini 350 "Forgotten Error" | +----------------------------------------------------------------+
They all do that sir. Rip the stupid alarm out, they only annoy the neighbours. Jumplead it from another battery to get enough voles to start the charger.
Indeed. So long as it can be raised from the dead I won't be too dismayed. Next time I leave it for a long time I will disconnect it and possibly also leave it hookes up to a solar panel jobby. -- +-----------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Visit my Home Page : http://www.flarefox.com/Lesbordes | | "Do not adjust your mind - there is a fault in the reality" | +-----------------------------------------------------------------+
True that I never use it. After the travails with the one on the old 306 I don't trust ageing alarms. I managed to kill that one successfully after a bit of googling, but I am wary of bolloxing the immobiliser side of things in the attempt without the necessary knowledge. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Voxan Roadster Gilera Nordwest * 2 Yamaha WR250Z | | Gilera GFR * 2 Moto Morini 2C/375 Morini 350 "Forgotten Error" | +----------------------------------------------------------------+
