mine is a 2.2 manual diesel, used a fair bit of oil early in its life
but seems to have settled down now.

agree with Simon about the easily scratched paintwork.

mine doesn't have the spare wheel which was a PITA when the sealing
kit didn't work so we had to be brought home by those nice folks at
    direct line [1]

service interval is only 10K but they aren't any more expensive to
service than my 307 was. its comfy to drive long distances.

    Generally I'd recommend.

letchworth have one that fits your requirements

    I like mine very much.

But then, I am (apparently) gay.

It just seems I'm not very good at gaying. Apart from the car.

Comfy, capacious, handles well (with all the electronic toys[1]
    driving).

    You'll hate it.[2]

    [1] Which you can't switch off[2].

Apparently there is quite a demand for Gay Bear websites and I'm sure you
    fit right in.

Thanks for feedback, it isn't for me natch but a mate who has seen the light
after endless slagging of a SO Merc.
Having cultured acute embarrassment I felt a need to assist.

I'm believing that Toyota make comprehensively reliable cars and have no
    French factories?

Don't laugh - but if said 'mate' is looking for a reliable automatic car
and obviously doesn't really care about image, then a Prius should be on
the shopping list. (Cheap tax, economical, lots of kit, very strong
    residuals)

"I have a friend who thinks he may want a sensible car".
I believe the Yaris is built in France.

Toyota make very nice, comfy, reliable cars. Our local dealer is also
excellent. Northern Pikey Scum Dealers May Vary.

They want a sit up high 4x4 that will slightly annoy Greenies.

Oh, how you've changed. From the days when you were told that you would
have a fucking Pious and like it - and, having only ever read reviews of
the thing, you hated and resented it like a little bitch before you'd
even laid eyes on one in the steel.

Now you've been stuck with one for several months ... and suddenly ...
it's the best car that God ever allowed to be made.

    Strange how perceptions change, Steve.

Don't get me wrong, I still hate it, and wouldn't choose one if there
were a choice of similarly specced cars offered.

However, I do appreciate that they're pretty good at what they're
designed to do, and nowhere near as bad as they're made out to be.

  14. I had to rent a car a couple of weeks back and ended up with a Prius.
I didn't mind it. I was playing silly buggers at the time and one
thing led to another and I realised I was too drunk to drive so ended
up sleeping in the car in the middle of Melbourne CBD on a Saturday
night. I liked the ability to turn the airconditioning on, set a temp
(I hadn't taken a sleeping bag with me or anything sensbile like
that), leave the engine running and go to sleep. There was enough
charge in the power cells to run the airconditiong for about 3/4 hour
before the petrol engine would automatically fire up for a few minutes
to power the cells back up and it would switch off.

They do have their uses . . .

  15. Worked for me that weekend :)
I was only hanging around CBD, and it's torque off the mark wasn't too
bad that it couldn't jump lazy arses not looking for traffic light
changes. Doubt I'd buy one though. But it changed my mind about
hybrids (I hadn't driven one before). As I said before, they have
    their uses.

Maybe. I had reason recently to visit a Toyota dealership, look at a
few models and test drive two.

The Aygo is made out of tin-foil. The Corolla is blander than a balnd
thing with added bland, and the iQ is rather fun, in a totally
non-practical and over-expensive kind of way.

Things may obviously get better the higher up the range one goes, but
we were only looking at small cars.
The dealer was pretty good, I would say. Of course, this is in the
    Royal County...

How many miles have you done on it? Not this week, not even this
month, but in all the time you've owned it.

The tank and side panels have probably done more miles in Adies car
than on the bike since they were re-sprayed.
