I want to stuff some more ram in the pc. However, I'm confused [1].

    I've got (according to CPU-Z utility) PC800 (400mhz) RDRam - I've had a look
round and can't seem to match this up with any of the techno babble on
offer - what should I be looking for?

    TA!

RAMBUS/RIMM memory. Not the cheapest stuff around either. This place is
    probably cheaper than most however..

Lozz has probably got the best link, there. You are the only person I know
of that actually bought a PC with RIMM in it :)

    *proud*

    It's a PC, it's old etc etc.

Mind yew, I might just look at replacing M/B, chip etc etc to bring it up to
    a decent spec.

Not only that, but there were so many issues with RIMM when it launched, and
it was so much more expensive than the competition that it had a short
life, even for an IT porduct. (If memory serves)
Given that 512M from ebuyer is gonna set you back nigh on £200 plus VAT and
p+p it would be both cheaper, and give a much greater improvement in
performance to buy a new CPU, Mobo and RAM. you could probably stretch to
a nice new hard disc as well.

Any recommendations as to chip - mobo- ram combinations? Don't want to spend
a fortune - but summat I could edit videos on would be good , although not
essential, as mine usually conks out somewhere along the line

Add VAT and a disk / graphics card should you desire. There are many other
options, but that should work AOK

Have you ever tried to return anything to them?

My newly-upgraded PC started making a different noise, see. Well, it
stopped whooshing quite so much, actually. This was because one of
the PSU fans - the one that runs all the time - had stopped running at
any time. It now runs at 40C instead of 28 - 30C when doing not a
lot, but when I push it a bit the temp rises rapidly to 58C (instead
of 48) where the second fan can maintain it. As long as I keep the
sides off the case. Still, at least I can see the gay turquoise glow
    from the illuminated graphics card.

This obviously is not ideal so I raised a RMA (Returned Material
Authorisation) with ebuyer last Friday. There's a note on the site
stating that they've "been a bit busy since Christmas" and that
they're "taking on lots of Customer Service people" to enable their
"excellent service levels" to be maintained ... and that there's a
seven-day delay in dealing with returns.

Seven fucking days? Yes, seven fucking days. It is now six by my
calendar and not a peep out of the fuckers. No robot acknowledgement,
not even a confirmation of RMA request received.

Annoyed? Yes, I am a bit peeved. Service well below and within the
call, I would say. The seventh day dawns tomorrow and then we'll see
what they make of me, I suppose. Does seem a bit cuntish so far,
    though.

    Pip says...
Yes, and a farcical experience it was. I have had no problem with
them, except for this one order which they fucked up and missed out
some stuff, whilst still charging for it.

They were then out of stock so I went elsewhere and told them to
take it all back and give me a refund. Waste of time. Ended up
getting a /bit/ shouty. Eventually they told me to keep the stuff
they'd sent as "a goodwill gesture" and refunded the lot.

Loads of times. I spent, at a rough geuss, about £40k with them last year.
Dunno why this happens. It's not the first time I've heard this kind of
story though. To give a counter example: I bought (with a whole load of
other stuff) a couple of DVD bruners. OEM. They were delivered last
Friday. One came with software and cables, one didn't. Odd thought I, but
I may as well see what's what. Stuck an enote on the site on Monday (IIRC)
got a reply on Tuesday saying that OEM drivers don't usually come with
software (obviously) but they'd see what they could do. Yesterday my
Citylink chap drops by with software (Nero express and powerDVD)

However, it's entirely possible that they have a different depeartment, and
I may be about to find out. I need to send some RAM back.
