FOAK: Race cans and points

Well, you're both sort of right. Depends when you made the modification.

At the outset of the contract, you have a duty to tell them anything that
is material to the risk. So, if you have a race can, and don;t tell them,
    they could avoid the policy.

But, say yoo start the year with a normal can but add a race can part way
through. Its not a breach of utmost good faith, as that duty only applie
to the start of the contract. But, insurer can still say there has been a
material alteration of the risk, which entitles them to avoid the policy.

In either case, it would have to be shown the change is material and
would have influenced the prudent underwriter, not just in accepting the
contract but also the terms it was written on (i.e. premium).

It's a generally held view that a material alteration of risk is a much
harder argument to run than a straighforward breach of utmost good faith.

Don't agree. It is almost certainly material.

Why do old Plastic Pigs[1] all seem to have cracked and crazed bodywork
then? Is this due to some other process, like ozone?

Ding. Insurers prefer paying out, cos its cheaper in the long run than
    disputing claims.

  4. Hm. Fairy nuff. I'd imagine that would just be the outer gel coat,
though. And how much would be due to the bodywork flexing?

I'm not disputing it - I'm just curious. I thought glass fibre lasted a
    long time.

    4ax.com:

You've said this before. But why then have a small plate. A race can just
creates more noise. A small plate, in the eyes of a copper means that
gatsos might not read you plate, you could do a runner after an accident
etc etc. Surely more likely to attract their attention?

Apparently so. I am told fibreglass delaminates when subjected to
    prolonged UV.

That's the gel coat cracking due to flexing. It shouldn't noticeably
    affect the structural strength.

No. The pipes on the Blackbird, going through the Limehouse Link, made
the copper following a tipper truck wonder what the noise was - so he
pulled out to have a look.

    3 points, £60.

Maybe the gel coat is there to protect the resin? I don't know, as I'm
not a lover of either glass fiber or Plastic Pigs.

  11. Interesting. I didn't know that. But they make aeroplanes out of g/f,
don't they? And UV effects are worse at altitude.

    <googles>

Well, there's a lot of talk about glass fibre being *resistant* to UV.

And I found this on an architectural site:

    "Silicon glass has a much higher tensile strength than polyester;
however, being glass is brittle. To over come this, the fibres are made
to a very small diameter but are still subject to damage from repeated
flexing. The advantage of glass is that it is not vulnerable to ultra
violet attack which gives it a 30+ year design life."

But there's way too much to digest in a 2-minute google.

Anyone know for sure? As opposed to "someone told me"?

(No offence, Lozzo - I'm genuinely interested here. I'd just like to get
the opinion of SWK. Not least becasue The Doctor uses an old g/f
    lid....)

No offence taken, I was only going by what I'd always been told before.

  13. I told mine[1] about the Goodridge lines and the Ohlins, only to be told
that's fine but you will not be able to claim for these bits, Oh and are
they BS certified. One Ins comp wouldn't even give a quote. I haven't
    mentioned the Scottoiler

I'm after a screenshot from the game. When the character becomes a
werewolf, he can see smells as colours.

Gaspode is surrounded by a bright green cloud all the time.

No, they don't appear in Discworld Noir.

It's a "adventure game" where you take the part of a private
detective, trying to find the Tsortese Falchion.

At one point, you get bit, and becoem a werewolf. It's dead good,
    honest. Takes *ages*.

The gel coat is resin. It's a thin coat applied directly to the mold,
making it effectively the surface of the piece you're making, giving it
a smooth finish. In some applications the gel coat will be coloured so
you don't have to paint it.
