My Corvette spent the first 10 years of its life in Florida without
falling apart - don't get much more UV than that!

True but while it may not have fallen apart it's structural integrity
might have been compromised summat horrid. In fact it almost certainly
    was but to what extent?

Oh? When you take your lid off, do you break any fingers? Broken arms?
Are you careful not to knock yourself out when putting your visor down?
Can you take your lid off in milliseconds? If the answers to these
questions are no, then it's possible that taking your lid off is not
anything like having a crash wearing your lid. If you can get your brain
around the concepts outlined in my reply that is...

If I ever find the cash to get it back on the road, I'll make a point
of crashing it & let you know the results.

Yes, I know taking your lid off is nothing like a having a crash. I
also know the only way a correctly fitting lid will come off in a crash
is if something catches it with enough force on the base or in the
visor opening to pull it off. As I can't remove my lid without pulling
the sides outwards at the base, it seems reasonable to assume that the
force required to just yank it off may well result in a broken neck.
After all, necks are easily broken when bent rapidly - hence HANS
    devices.

That's jolly kind of you to offer - I'll be round to collect it in June.

Well, no need to make lids with straps then, surely? I expect also, that
there are a large number of ways your lid could get yanked off your head
with and without braking your neck. It's rather like the way some people
say that they would roll or fall one way if they had a crash. It just
    doesn't work out like that.

If everyone had a head shaped like an upside down egg, & everyone
bought helmets that perfectly matched their particular shape of egg, &
the padding didn't compress with time, then possibly not.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's pointless doing up the strap; I
always have & always will. I'm just saying that with my head & current
lid (Uvex Species), it's unlikely the strap would make much difference.
It's the only lid I've ever had that I would say that about though, &
my Lazer & Shoei would probably come off very easily in a crash without
    the strap.

about releasing the potential of the 12R. They reckon
powercommandering it smooths out the on/off throttle and gives more
    power.

That'd suit me fine, as exiting roundabouts is a bit of a chore
without very careful application of the funhandle.

They do say is shags the fuel consumption though :-0

Fairy nuff. :) I've only had low to mid range lids, that may not fit as
well as the more expensive stuff you have.

  20. Are you sure about that? Polycarb, I could understand, but g/f? If it
were true, then glass fibre cars would fall apart after a few years.
