FOAK query: Friese Green filming on bbc.co.uk

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Chris N Deuchar, Apr 25, 2006.

  1. In the past I have recoded the streaming video off the bbc sites for
later viewing - but I can't remember how I did it!

I seemed to remember it involved Real Player when it was much simpler
than today - but it isn't obvious now. Win media player says 'cannot
copy' - which is not what I am trying to do.

I remember I had to start a program recording *before* starting to
    view the video...

    Any (non-jargon) advice please?

  3. Thanks for this but the problem however is that the BBC site seems
impervious to all efforts and yet all progs I have tried seem to work
    on other sites
    <sigh>

    Thanks anyway

  4. Those cunning cunts at the Beeb seem to have fucked us over again.
Bunch of bastards - ffs, all I wanted to do was download some programme
material for later listening, something that would have been easy to do
with older technology and yet it seems to be a point of priniciple with
some wanker there to prevent it.

It's not about the technology, it's about the broadcast rights. There's
a huge difference between real-time streaming (the equivalent of
broadcasting a repeat) and making it available for download (the
equivalent of posting you a free CD).

  6. I accept that, but in the old days if I wanted to set a recorder to
catch something I could listen to at my leisure, it was simple.
That's pretty much all I'm seeking to do now, but several times in the
past couple of years it's become more difficult to do so.

I suppose I could take a step backwards and record a .wav/mp3 of the
    listen-again output, but it's a pita.

  7. But it's much more convenient for me to grab something off the 'listen
again' list and listen to it at my leisure - at least, it was up until
recently. In effect, I want to do no more than suit myself when I listen
to it, exactly the same as recording it off air [1]. I see no problem
with rights in doing that, it's what people have been doing for decades,
just with a different access point.

[1] Yes, I can grab it off the Sky box and have done so when I've
remembered - the NQ being captured that way quite often; but when I miss
the NQ I want to get it down from the site and listen to it later.

  8. I'm the listener - I'm the important one in this exchange between me and
my service provider. What I want is paramount and everybody else in the
supply chain exists to serve my needs.

The BBC and the Performing Rights Society seem to have forgotten that.

  9. Sorted!
    ASFRecorder does the job!
The bit they don't tell you is that after installing it you have to
click a button in the setup to register ASF & ASX files *AND* reboot
    the machine.

Then a click on the BBC link brings up a box which asks you if you
want to use the Win Media player plugin or a standalone viewer. Click
the latter and *OPEN* (not save) the file. ASFR then whirrs into life
and does the biz. It seems to hang up at 100% but closing the prog
(Yes, you really do want to stop the transfer!) sorts it out ok

    Happy viewing
