FOAK: Price check

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by anonymouslemming, Jul 18, 2008.

  1. Hi all,

Sorry to bug, but I just want to get some opinions on how much money
    things should be as a guide - I found a bike I like, but I don't think
    the prices are right:

    Mine, to p/x:
2007 Honda CBF600 with 3000 miles (added centre stand, scottoiler and
    flyshield)

    Bike I'm looking at:
2003 Kawasaki ZZR600 with 9000 miles and datatag (good condition,
garaged, one scuff on the nose)

The dealer is offering 2300 - 2400 for my px and is asking for 2750
for the Kawasaki - this feels a little out of balance to me, but I'm
    currently suffering from lust :)

    Thanks in advance,

    Wayne

I would pay £2500 for the Kawasaki, not sure what the CBF is worth. The
ZZR is a good bike too. The 1100 is even better ;)

  3. Thanks - sounds like I'm overpaying on the ZZR and being underpaid for
the CBF. Despite the lust, I think it's time to walk away. Pity.

It's very much a buyers market now mate, don't forget that with your
    trade in.

  5. Assume I'm thick (always a safe assumption!) - does that mean I should
be expecting to get a bit more for the trade-in than under non 'credit
    crunch' conditions ?

    Thanks,

You'll get less for the trade in, but you can buy cheaper. Swings &
    roundabouts.

    Go for a ZZR1100 & hang on\ ;)

I dunno, it's _always going to be that way with dealers ... they still
have to punt yours back out at a reasonable price too.

See what ebay says prices are, it's a reasonable clue to what's
    _really_ happening, IMHO.

    You could use Glass's Guide - http://www.glass.co.uk/.
For a total of £7 you could have both bikes professionally valued.
You'll get current dealer, private and trade-in values. Not to be
taken as gospel, of course, but handy as guidelines and quotable to a
    dealer.

Is it any more reliable / respected than Parker's, who seem to be fairly
    random in their quotes?

My perception over the years has been that Parker's is for the public
and Glass's for the trade. Things may well ahve moved on, of course,
and I suspect the trade will always have access to better data than us
    punters anyway.

  11. Thanks - I'll definitely have a look at that in the future.

I've had a good look around a couple of sites and I'm now sure I could
get about 400 more than the dealer wants to give me, so I'm going to
take a pass on this one.

Might just flog the bike privately, get the cash and then look for
    something.
