Richer Sounds have never been cheap for accessories

I normally get cables and such like from CPC

    Neither did I until recently.

I hope to be on the cusp of re-wiring my AV system, and I think I may be
    availing of some.

At that sort of price, you just buy a ruck of them and put the rest away
    until you need them

I bought a range (better quality, gold plated etc) from 2m to 10m, I
think I have one spare now

Bollocks to re-wiring, I'd sure as shit let the magic smoke out of
    somewhere.

They have been for some stuff, but lately they've gone "up market" as far as
    prices are concerned.

Well yes, but you can paint stuff. I can make AV systems dance.
Challenge ATM is that my living room is still mostly full of dust and
    kitchen.

I can make wimmin dance too, but they're fucking useless at re-wiring too :)
    BTDT. You have my sympathy.

OK so I ordered from Kenable.
2M gold plated HDMI and their best quality 1M Toslink. Both look good
    quality.

    £10.56 delivered.

OK so Pip wouldn't be happy, it isn't a single crystal of unidirectional
99.99999% copper soaked in the warm piss of a 13 y/o Aryan virgin, but my
    hearing isn't so good.

Digital is digital. If the signal makes it past the checksumming
you'll have sound and vision that's as good as it's going to get. If
the signal does not make it past the checksum, it is bad, and
discarded, and you will have nothing. Full Stop. End Of.

    Heratic.
It's already been established in this forum that those with a good ear can
hear the difference that gold plating of optical fibre brings

I don't argue that they can't. I argue that the protocol
specification for digital interconnection dictates exactly what signal
is allowed to be passed between digital devices, and what is
discarded. The placebo effect of cable structure is simply an
abboration, and a mirror of the listeners own mental and biological
    failings.

    :)

Speaker cable manufacturers make fortunes from that placebo business!

If you're in a high-end studio then cable quality can make a difference,
even if it's simply reliability. In the home, on the other hand...

Up to a point, yes. But as I'm sure you know it then goes on up to silly
    levels.

Speakers are also analogue, so it's a different argument.
