My work laptop is beginning to forget things and smells of wee so I'm
thinking about replacements. I like a wide screen and also a number
    pad is important.

This Acer Aspire 9300 has served me well but I'm currently looking at
    this: http://bit.ly/8tJaKv

    What say the FOAK?

IIRC thats what my younger brother Tony has, saw it and had a play with
it at Christmas when I was over there.

I was quite impressed by it, not by the widescreen but after a few
minutes playing with it I was surprised to realise that the number pad
    was particularly useful.

He certainly said that he found it very good as an all round laptop, ie
performance wise etc, he's training to be a teacher (gone back to
college at the age of 34) but also does a lot of online stuff
apparantly as well as digital movies for the local kayak club or
    something?

Anyway, I liked it, he likes it, he lugs it about with no great hassle
so it's not that cumbersome. Certainly if I had the money and needed a
new laptop it would be at the top of my list.

Too big, i got an Acer Aspire 5732Z at Christmas, it's 15.6 widescreen with
a very clear screen, 500gb HD & 4 gb ram. It's a very fast laptop to be
honest with a decent processor, not some celeron.

It cost less than £400 from tesco.

    I would buy another tomorrow.

  13. I've recently acquired an Acer Aspire 5738PG with touchscreen, and I must
say that the touchscreen is utter win. Nice laptop too.

I bought Mrs Vass one of these for Crimbo (in red)
she wanted the keypad being of accountancy sort like myself
Its plenty quick, runs like a dream, just struggling for a laptop case that
    size at the moment.
But all good so far :)

Intel Core i7 CPU, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, 17" screen, DVD-RW (get the dv8 if you
    want BluRay drive)

Benchmarks absolutely hammer every other type of CPU, with these things going
for a grand it doesn't make any sense to get any other CPU at the mo.

The laptop won't work very well after that.

  19. There's something of a premium for the touchscreen, but after 30 seconds
playing with it, I knew I had to have it.

I'm glad you posted this, as I'm in the market too but generally don't
like strating phone and/or laptop threads as I lose the moral high
ground when I complain about them )

I've been looking at the same, although will probably opt for the 15
despite the fact there's no number pad on that.
