I just bought a Compaq M300 laptop on eBay for home use (I use one at
work), cos I love its robustness and tininess. And I bought a 3Com g card
on eBay so I can use it at home with my 3Com g access point. And in every
    respect it's fine...except...

It seems to stick on the internet connection front for 20-30 seconds every
now and then, particularly if if I haven't touched it for a while - Firefox
[1] reports it's 'Resolving host', but I'm not sure I believe it. Happens
with Xnews and other IP apps as well, so it's not Firefox. How do I work
out what the problem is, since I don't know where to start.... Ideas
anyone? Other wireless stuff on the network doesn't have this problem, so
I'm sure it's local to this machine.

[1] Mozilla Firefox is fantastic, beats any browser I've tried in the last
decade in vanilla download, by the time you've added some extensions of
interest.... I'm not touching any other browser ever again.....

What DNS server is is set to use?
I thought that about Opera once, then Phoenix came along, and I thought it
about Phoenix, and then Firefox came along. And I love it :)

Catman secured a place in history by writing:
In the network properties, DNS Configuration, DNS is 'Disabled'. And there
is nothing entered in the gateway settings either.
Yes. I've evangelised about God knows how many browsers before, but I
really think Firefox is the one....

Have they fixed the cookie handling yet (since version 0.9.2)?

I've certainly noticed no cookie issues

I ban *all* cookies by default and whitelist the sites I am prepared
    to accept cookies from.

In IE, adding a new site to the whitelist is a right-click away on the
    convenently displayed No-Entry symbol

In Firefox you first have to realise that the site is not working
properly because it wants to save a cooky. You then have to dive into
the security options to temporarily turn on cookies. Then go back an
reload the page. Then go back and turn cookies off again. A bit off
a PITA IMHO. I will be ever so glad for you to tell me about a
shortcut I am missing out on.

Right to this point, but then just add the domain / site manually and it's
done. Not as convenient as IE I'll grant, though I have to say I've never
    noticed a problem.
