FOAK: Monitor problems

Got home late last night and fired up the main PC [xp] which H uses.
All seemed fine except the monitor only wants to work for about 1
second before going to 'sleep' again. The light on the screen's
control panel remains green and no movement of mouse or keyboard will
bring it back to life. I left it until this morning and the screen
light had turned orange indicating sleep mode. When I moved the mouse
the screen worked for 1 second before going off again. If I turn the
screen off and then off again it will work for 1 second before going
blanks with it's light showing green. When I reboot the DOS info will
show up and the machine will appear to boot normally but then revert
    to the above.

    Any ideas?

    TIA

Try another cable and another monitor first.

  6. I'd remove and re-fit the graphics card after doing same with the monitor
    lead.

It would appear that the screen from the ids PC works fine on H's PC
and H's monitor has exactly the same problem on the kids PC.

    So, I reckon I need a new monitor :)

I'm in Harlow later, maybe PC World will have something.

I had the same problem and Ian (or maybe it was Christofire, I can't
remember) shut the computer down and unplugged, re-plugged the cable to the
    monitor. It's been fine since.

Is it a Samsung? I had that a couple of years ago, worked fine with the
ancient CRT from the attic but the SinkMaster blipped out after about a
second. Fixed by replacement under extended warranty.

Our electronice guy at work fixes TFT screens as usually its
just a particular capacitor, no idea which on myself but i know
that fixes this type of problem, if your handy with a soldering
iron I can find out which one if you like.

That one always gets me when the traffic guy on the radio talks about delays
and tailbacks caused by "a lorry with a shed load".

I shed load of what FFS?

If it's pre-treated timber does that make it a shed load of sheds?
