IT security rights are the new social hierarchy. Still, not going to
lose any sleep until IT security rights become the new payment
    hierarchy.

I have full admin rights on my laptop *and* there's no business case
    for me to do.

  5. Same for me. But that might have something to do with having a domain
admin account that is in the local admins group on all our PCs..

Phear me for I am ROOT!

    agreed. Dell are worse, mind.

Actually, as Kiran's chief driver seems to be "make it pikey-cheap", he
may as well consider a Dixon's "Manager's Special" Packard Bell...

We're selling off some Asus Thin and Light notebooks at the moment.

Not exactly your spec but upgradeable.

    They're excess new stock.

The Asus model number is M5N

    Specification
    12" Thin & Lite
    Pentium 715 CPU (1.5 GHz)
    CDRW/DVD Drive
    256Mb RAM
    40Gb HDD
    Wireless Card
    Windows XP Pro
    £550 + VAT

No Warranties I believe, but a 2 week DOA Period is allowed.

They are really for staff purchase, but I don't see anything wrong with me
    buying on behalf.....

    Mail me if your interested.

Don't talk such drivel, that's not what I said.

Anyway, since you have a Thinkpad, what's the T42 like?

Thanks for mentioning it. But I think I'd want a warranty. And I can't see
any proper reviews searching for that model on google.

Hmm, only asked cos theres a new cheap one on ebay, for about £300 notes
less than ebuyer want for it. Still, I had a look in a few shops this
evening, and didn't like it in the flesh anyway.

    Ditto.

If you've the budget, go for a model with the 1400 x 1050 screen, it's
possibly the best laptop screen I've ever worked on, and worth the extra
    cash.

Well, I'm on my fourth or fifth Tosh and they've all been very reliable
really. The current one's three years old and has done more than 40k in
a bike top box and hasn't really failed me too much.

It's now giving me a BSOD once or twice a day when I use the scroll
wheel on the mouse; I suspect a fresh install of XP would fix it but my
IT helpdesk tell me it's out of spec. so I need a new one.
